first year production?

I'm a newbie and really enjoy this new hobby and site.  I have three 3-4' trees that came bare root and planted them in bottom watering pots similar to the ones on the growing tip site.  They are all doing well but at different rates of progress.  The one doing the best has buds all up and down the stem that are exposing leaves.
What is the likelihood of harvesting figs this first year if I keep doing everything right?

Mark

Mark, I am in the same position with several trees the size you describe, most of which are pushing brebas.

Have seen the name Violetta on several adds for figs. All have different pictures with them. HUMM? Doesn't Violetta mean purple? I am trying to learn from this as well.

If you are starting with 4 foot trees you stand a pretty good chance of tasting fresh figs this year.  You probably should limit production though, meaning if your tree produces a lot of figs remove a few to ensure the health of your tree

What BLB said but a lot depends on what variety they are, what their root balls are like, what your climate is like and how you fertilize.  With good care you'll almost certainly get figs and you can boast about them here with photos of the plants and fruits inside and out.   We'll all cheer you on.

What varieties do you have and where did you get them?  Welcome to the forum!

On 3/26/13 I purchased a Celeste from Fruit_N_More.
On 3/21/13 I purchased Brown Turkey and Black Mission from Eden's Fruits.

So far the Brown Turkey is ding the best followed by the Celeste followed by the Black Mission.  My mixture is 5 parts Pro Mix )80-90% Sphagnum Pete Moss, slow release fertilizer perlite), 1 part organic compost, 1 part perlite, 1 part garden limestone.
So far the only additional fertilizer that I added was a yogurt cup full of worm castings down the watering hole to create a fertile tea mixture in the water.  I was scared to add a bunch of fertilizer to soilless mix.
I'm in central Ohio which is zone 5.  I've put them into the garage when the weather has been bad.  When it's not supposed to o below freezing, they are staying outside in full sun.  They seem to like that.
Thanks, Mark

BT may not be the best tasting fig, but they usually do grow great. Your Black Mission and Celeste will almost certainly offer you better tasting figs. That is provided  they are all as labeled

I would expect that you will get some figs this year.  Keep a watch at the leave nodes.  I bet that you have some figlets 4-5 weeks as soon as your weather is consistantly above 60 degrees.
