Does anyone know of a fig variety that has flat stems on the fruit?
I bought an unk from a local nursery about a month ago. It was good size, loaded with figs, and the price was right. It was just labeled "Large Italian White." The nurseryman said it was locally grown by grower that I've only known to grow poinsettias, impatiens, mums and the like.
I was just looking at it more closely and I realized that all the stems on all the figs have a flat profile. i.e. instead of having a round cross-section, they are very noticeably flattened. The tree looks healthy (other than yellowing leaves due to the weather turning), the figs look healthy, and the stems look healthy. It doesn't look like they're drying out or anything. Every fig from top to bottom, from the smallest to the largest, has the same shape to the stem.
Does this ring a bell to anyone?
Cheers,
Jim
