Florea - Good News For Pacific North West

Main crop Florea ripening in Pacific Northwest, 25th August 2014. The ripening process
is short -- in the sense that it ripens quickly from swelling, turning color and walla, chow time.
Its earliness is an important attribute in cool Pacific Northwest. We ate the 1st ones yesterday.
My tree is grown in a large pot and since last year, Florea roots have grown into ground. My tree
was not protected last winter. Last year Florea produce a good crop of figs that ripens for me and Michael
in Vancouver. It's taste is good.

I'm glad Florea is doing well for you.  It was the first to ripen a main crop here out of the varieties I grow which is consistent with Herman's posts on it.  I wasn't expecting the flavor to be really high ranking but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.  Improved Celeste (O'Rourke not) is supposed to ripening about the same time as Florea.  Have you tried that one in your area?

That's good news regarding Improved Celeste ripening around the same time as Florea.
I have Improved Celeste but it kept dying back. Will give it extra protection this winter
and hopefully it produces like Florea.

Wow what fantastic early production for a main crop Paully. I'm drooling over here!

Michael's tree is ripening too. This is excellent news for main crop to ripen this early.

Nice! Thanks for the report, I'm trying to compile a list of figs that would do well in the PNW.  I have relatives there who would like to grow something other then DK.

Looking good Paul, looks very productive too.
