Florea in New England

I got my first ripe Florea fig (thanks George) on the 26th.  It was a little better than fair - moist, sweet with a tart note, and some crunch in the pulp.  The surprise was the color.  Herman had posted some nice photos and I was expecting a basically light fig.  This is what it looks like in Rhode Island.

The almost ripe figs look more like what I was expecting.

The eye and interior.

I got my first main crop fig, a Celeste, on August 23.  Celeste was always  my first fig to ripen.  The Florea was three days later, but it is a young fig and didn't start to grow until late in the season.  It will be interesting to see when it ripens next year.

Fignut,

I believe your air-pot is upside down. The "top" 3 rows of cones are supposed to be the unperforated ones.

Nice fig, BTW

Hi MaryAnn:I think that it is because the guy in Beverly Nj,harvest them too early.
Any way,the taste can be better than in my climate.
It was much better at my father house over seas.
It had ripe figs here on 20th of July(main crop)

Good catch Sandsquid, LOL.  I love the way plants grow in these things, but putting them together is not my favorite task.  It's difficult to do them ahead of time because of the room they take up, and I'm usually rushing to get them together so I can pot.
Do you have any storage tips?

Herman, your first Celeste was on Aug. 14 (if I remember correctly) and mine was Aug. 23.  So I'm about nine days behind you.  If I get these figs about July 29 next year, you'll probably hear me shouting for joy all the way down in New Jersey,LOL.  As it is, I'm thrilled to have them so close to Celeste.  I am so pleased with this fig - thanks for getting it out to the fig community.  Even if it didn't do well for you, it is finding its place.

One Thing I can guaranty you.
You will get ripe fruit out of Florea on First of August, main crop, with the tree in ground and not protected.
It positivelly do not have breba as i Watched them come on and all falling off, before ripe.
So if you see them coming, brake them off asap.
That will catapult the fig ahead,to make the main crop.
And that is what you want in your climate.
Best Regards
And you welcome.
