Fool proof air layer idea

Been about a month, here's my Danny's Delight I wanted a spare of as I intend to plant one inground next season.

Nice roots ;)

Here's a few after 27 days in empty foil balls, moisture having gotten into them by whatever means.

Here is Emalyn's Purple that had four wet cotton balls added to the foil ball.

She was removed and potted, seems to be ok so far.

None.  People say it goes faster.  I'm not in any hurry.  That particular air layer of Emalyn's Purple was potted and stayed on the front porch a few weeks.  It was won by Maher Aama in a facebook group FIGaway and mailed this week.  He got it yesterday in good shape.

Cotton balls worked ok in this air layer but when it's real hot outside, like around 100
F like we had for several weeks in a row, they dry out.  It was a good experiment but I won't use them any more.

Some foil balls had used peat pellets and others 100% compost.  The ones with compost made the best roots.

Some of the ones with peat pellets got saturated from water entering around the stem and made no roots at all.

ILeon,

The air layer technique you are re-teaching to newer members is really amazing...

Presuming I can attach a picture, this is a late season air layer using an old date container, and because I live in a double wide, lots of duct tape to secure it to the tree. :)

The Hollier air layer you taught me...Started oct. 20, opened today....and put in the ground today.

Thank You.

Edited to add: I am getting the dreaded error message....will try to attach pic. Later.
