For Fla.-LSU Purple and ?

Want to send my brother in central Fla. an extra, small plant of LSU Purple that I have and would like to send two others that I have from this list :

Marseilles Black vs
Latarolla (ejp)
Atreano
Sal's gene strain
Hardy Chicago
Large Negronne

Which of these would be best in Florida ?

Thanks for any help .
Kerry

I would send the ones I thought tasted the best.

Joe ,
My fig trees are young so this year I expect to be able to taste some of these maybe in September.

Well I think I would be sure he gets a good light fig too, so definitely Latarolla should be one of them.

So BLB ,
Latarolla does well in the Philly area ?
I used to live near Valley Forge and the Summers were pretty hot and humid.
Latarolla probably would be a good choice for Florida. I would send all of these to him,but don't want to overwhelm him.

I planted one of Ed's Latarollas (Latarolla (EJP)) and it is growing like a weed here in the heat and humidity of Georgia.  It has been especially hot and humid this summer, so this fig should thrive in Florida also.  It is setting a nice crop of figs it's first summer here.

And I agree with BLB that if you are sending just two figs, a dark and light is a good plan.

I sent my brother back in Maine a Hardy Chicago.  Just one fig (to start) but now he is hooked too!

Hope your brother will enjoy these as much as we do.

Best wishes.

John

p.s.  The LSU Purple is a definate winner.  It will do well for him, but tell him to be patient. The LSU Purple's flavor improves dramatically with age.

Latarolla is growing strong for me here. I planted it in ground this year and it sort of sat still for a month or so, but is pushing out new growth very fast now. I am looking forward to many years of big juicy figs from this tree. It is a good clean grower for me too, no signs of fmv and nice leaves.

Hi Kerry
I was surprised that Hardy Chicago has done very well for me here in N. Fl. good growth and the fruit has held up well in the heat and rain.
Jim

John , one reason I want to send some others besides the LSU Purple is because of just what you mention , that he will need to be patient as LSU P develops some age and flavor improves.

Barry , Latarolla is sounding like a good choice to send. For me both it and Atreano are very strong growers, hoping the fruit turns out great.

Jim , it is good to hear Hardy Chicago could be a good choice for the weather in Fla. , I wasn't sure how good a producer it might be. Sounds like it is good for you.
