For those of us with mostly insipid figs this year, which ones stood out as great despite the cold weather?

If you're like me, the cold weather caused figs that were great last year to be almost tasteless this year.  And last year was a cooler than average summer.  Nonetheless, a few figs stood out a pretty good despite the weather.  Top among them was Bass' Salem Dark.  Others that were still very good or better were:

Bass' Salem Dark  (for those only looking at the list :- )
JH Adriatic
Battaglia Green
Hardy Chicago
Celeste - 1 fig

These produced some great figs and some bland figs

Figo Preto
Malta Black
Alma - all split from humidity only but covered with an organza bag they did not sour.
Macool
White Triana

If you had bad weather causing bland figs this year, what figs managed to produce great figs for you anyway?  This would be a valuable list for all of us with less than ideal growing seasons.

Last year was an awful year in the SE.  This year was a bust for me since my figs mostly were recovering from the winter.  I got, like, four 15g Petite Negri.  Picked them all at the same time, and three were still slightly unripe and tart.  One was very, very, good, complex.

Yesterday, got to taste strawberry guavas for the first time.  Think I like Suriname cherries more, and wishing I got a serious guava instead.

Battaglia and Smith were the best for me, also Negronne. However, mine are all in containers. My Preto were not as good as last year, also, many are still on the tree.

I am very pleased ,by the quality of fruits this year compared to last year.
Delicious fruits from :
Malta Black
Improved Celeste (This is not the regular Celeste):
Ronde de Bordeaux
St Anthony
Tacoma Violet
Dalmatie
Note:This is what got ripe to this moment, all except Malta black grew from soil level, due to die back,in harsh Winter!
All my figs are in ground!
Adriatic Jh,Battaglia,Col de dame gris, and Longue D'Out,are close to ripe now so ,more good things to come!

Brooklyn White was insipid. But maybe it always is?

O'Rourke have been ripening poorly in the colder weather over the last 2 weeks, but
Champagne is ripening normally with a sweet jammy translucent interior.

I don't have a basis for comparison, because I had very few figs last year and none before that, but I had some good figs this year (not in any particular order):

Good:
1. Hardy Chicago
2. Sicilian Black Italian GM
3. Sal's Corleone
4. Lattarula
5. Beall

Not Good:
1. Mary Lane Seedless
2. Ischia White

lattarolla was very good this year despite the weather

Marseilles Black VS and Atreano were consistently good.

Last year we didn't really have any "bad" figs but for us the plants were relatively young
All of these are in pots and these are our results this year...
Battaglia's - a lot of fruit great tasting and continues to produce
Negronne - a lot of great tasting fruit and continues
Calliopes' Red Greek unk - a lot of great fruit but done for the year

Since acquiring other varieties last year and growing them out the list will be longer next summer.

vasile, glad to see your back. I have a question for you. I am planting some fig trees in the ground next spring. I am prepared to protect trees from north jersey winters. A Lot of work; so I want your opinion on the tastiest.  If you were going on taste alone.

white: stella, Adriatic jh, or battaglia verde

black: malta black, gino, or ronde de bordeux

                         much appreciated, anthony

This is first year I have had figs from my RDB.
It is definitely a keeper, even if this is as good as it gets.
... and it only ripened one so far this year, in late september.

I suppose I'm just so grateful to be getting my first figs, that I think they've all been very good.  A couple of Ho-Hums were picked too green so I cant judge them. A couple of days ago was the first VdB and it was the best so far.  Up until then, the Red Sicilian, White Genoa made me very happy.  A few more of VdB may spoil me for others.  I cant wait to taste all the wonderful figs in my future, like my tiny 3 inch tall Blk Madeira.  It started cute itsy bitsy figs.  ohh that was  sad to remove them.
