We were driving along one of the barrier islands here in NC last weekend. I found some fig trees at an ocean-front apartment complex. They were loaded with figs; and no one but the birds were eating them, so I picked some. They were very sweet and delicious. I referenced the variety list on Encanto Farms. Judging from the fruit and the leaves, I think they are Almas.
I'm definitely going back for more before they all go to the birds. And I plan to go get cuttings this winter. It's hard to believe that these trees were treated like just any landscape plant by the residents. There were figs drying and rotting all over the trees. What a waste.
