Found a fig tree at the doctors office

While at the doctors office today which was on the second floor I glanced out of the window and at a range at about 40 yards from the office I spotted this beautiful fig tree this is a very old neighborhood so I am assuming this has been here for a very long time there was an old cherry tree and I noticed an old  peach tree in the corner it looked like the fig tree died to the ground last year all the shoots are still green the leaves on the tree I would have to say are at least 15" long I am going to keep an eye on the tree and wait for the green shoots to harden off before getting an cutting , any ideas what this might be?

maybe lsu purple leaves look simular or negronne

Would I be able to ask for a favor for you to grab a cutting for me because I really want to grow a fig tree. If you can't it's fine. : )

Definitely not LSU Purple.

Brunswick?

Hi Dave,
Without a ripe fruit, it --may-- even be a caprifig or a seedling ...
Some trees are used as shade trees.
If I was to suppose that this is a decent fruiting tree, I would compare her to "Brunswick" or a "Dorée - french strain" ... BUT without a fruit, this is just a wild guess .

Doubtful it is a caprifig or seedling in CT.
The leaves could be a wide variety of things but Brunswick does look like that and has been 'around' for a long time.
Surprising with a mature plant like that, and with that much regrowth, that it is not trying to make figs (even though they would be too late to mature) - you did not mention seeing any baby figs on it?

Ed that sounds about right  would doubt it's any type of rare variety of course you never know I think it would be a variety that would of been easy to obtain  possibly 30 to 40 years ago I didn't see any baby figs on it but I didn't get up close and dig into the middle next time I am down there I will investigate a little more a Brunswick fig is fairly easy to identify even a small one I will keep you posted if I can get extra cuttings for people here that would like them I will

Very impressive! If it really died to the ground this past winter, the new growth is HUGE!

Dalmatie/ Stella?

Love those long leggy leaves on that tree. Grab a few cuttings for me Dave!

I agree with Don! Sure looks like them....: )

I finally got some cuttings for me about 3 weeks ago thanks to Figpig for reminding me I wasn't sure how they would do because they have already been hit with frost a few times I wasn't sure how viable the limbs would be and low and behold when I checked the cuttings a couple of days ago I'm seeing signs of life not sure how many are going to make it but all you need is one to survive

Nice, thanks for sharing. Keep us posted. Good job rooting them

Beautiful leaves.

Yez, very pretty leaves.

Dave, it looks very much like a VdB to me.  If it has dark fruit with a red interior, it could be.  I found one at an old, abandoned house near me last year, took a few cuttings.  Easy to root and the figs were good.
