Olga...great photo. I look forward to reading your comments on your figs. Wish I had figs to pick!!

Sara, how I understand you will have Malta Purple Red this year?
So, just wait..
I know I do have many which still green..And this is hard to wait..
My Malta Purple Red still have very small size figs, but they will get bigger..

Olga, I've been following this thread with interest. Is there any way you can post a picture of the leaves of the Fracazzano. I have an unknown fig that looks very much like your Fracazzano. I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks Olga, I will take pictures of mine later today to show you. My tree is a fast grower.

Alright Olga

I hate Florida humidity and heat, but you make it a little too tempting!

Olga, after studying your pictures and mine I don't think that the are the same. Very close maybe but not the same. Since I'm in zone 9 along the coast of Louisiana, I don't think the differences I see are caused by different climates. The soil here is mostly clay and loamy clay and it doesn't get any salt water. I guess I'll just have to keep looking.  Dan may be right in thinking it's another LSU fig, just which one. It has the characteristics of some of the LSU figs that's for sure.
Thanks again,
"gene"

Here are the pictures I took today.

A 3 lobe leaf which is the most predominant.

A single lobe leaf of which there are many.

And a 5 lobe leaf of which there are a few.

The stripes and white dots.

Singles, doubles and plenty fruit per branch.

The inside of fig from last year. All same except two halves in the middle which are LSU Gold.

Yes, I think this different variety, still look very good and produce lots of figs..
For me name is not very important, I just want to eat lots of very good tasting figs, this is my mission..
So, tell us how good taste of this one?
Mine was not very sweet..But this one got so big so fast after rain, so I think this is why..I want to see how other will taste...
Last year this one was small but sweet..
So, I just need wait for other to get ripe..

Dominic..
I keep inviting here everyone who grow figs..
I keep saying if you like to grow figs, just come here...
And..I can't stand cold.. and all.. Even I come here from Russia..
So, I hope..More people who love figs and other plants just will to move here..
Special prices on properties  now still not bad...
We do have ocean here...
Only one bad things.. Not many jobs available..
This is like a vacation place....

If I lived in Florida  would be in fruit growing heaven but the weather would make me pass out! haha

With time you will be OK..
When I first come here 11 years from now I was not be able be outside even 15 minutes in a summer time without sweat all over..
Now I working outside with plants all day long and I'm OK..
Actually I find out ..I real don't like airconditioner..I always get sick from it..
So, this is will take just time ..
We do have many people live here.. Actually when I come here this was a small town with may be 100000 people, now this more then 500000 people live here.. So, people move here all the time..But some who can't find a job moving back also..

I spent half of my life in Florida between Jacksonville, Orlando and Gainesville.  The heat didn't bother me too much back then (I was younger), but now when I go back, just spending 10 minutes outside in the humidity makes me want to take a nap.

My wife lived in Miami from birth until college, when she moved to Gainesville, also, more than half of her life there.  Same thing with her.  Visiting our families down in Miami, Stuart and Bradenton is brutal.

We both agree we will never move back.  We love having real season changes!  In Florida, it's summer 9 months out of the year, then 3 months of "not summer, but not necessarily winter, either".

Then again, there is no way in hell I could live any farther north than North Carolina, either.  I don't understand how you northerner folks do it.  Growing/warm season is too short and the weathers are too brutally cold.  I'm even more amazed by our friends here on the board that are from Canada (well, maybe not BC, but everything east of the Rocky Mountains).

It's in your Blood! LOL

I go out in the middle of January in a t-shirt.

But catch me in 30 yrs and I'll probably want to walk to Florida.

I can't get my parents to move up to Atlanta.  My mom is dying to move up here so she can be closer to the kid, but Dad is miserable while here, even in our petty cold weather.  He would rather be sweltering hot for 9-10 months out of the year (he thinks 75ยบ is cold!) than to need to put up with ~3 months of moderately cold and wet weather....

That's my in-laws. Moved from MA, where they grew up and lived for 50+ yrs, to Sarasota. They come up for summer and 60's are too cold for them. Oh boy!

Dominic 75F cold for me:-)
But I know people here who keep they houses 72F year around..
I hate go to they houses..I need bring a jacket with me..
