Fracazzano

Olga, your fig tree is very nice, however it does not look like any fracazzana - ficazzana (same fig) picture I've seen. I have an original ficazzana from Sicily and the figs are much larger, somewhat flat bottom and have raised delineations on skin. The true ficazzana looks like an 'italian honey' on steroids, I have confirmed that with several italian websites that show the ficazzana fig. You may want to research your fig and possibly check with your source to clear up the type. There are a lot of mislabeled fig trees out there and many nurseries are propagating some of these mislabeled figs.
Here are some pictures

Ben,

Did you snap the leaves off between the figs or did the figs just grow out like that on old wood?

If you did snap off the leaves can you please explain why?

Rafed, I did not snap or pinch anything off that tree. It usually does not put out that many brebas and they were extra delicious. I did top it off last year (removed a 4 ft top section after it rooted )and I used the air layered top to graft a few cuttings of the EYF enormous yellow fig from North Carolina (see post on garden web) Those grafts are doing well.  I also fertilized early this year and it responded well. Good to know it has the potential to do such a display.

Thanks Ben,

Keep up the good work. Good looking pics

Hi, Ben!
Thanky for pics and info..
I got my on Ebay..I don't sure about seller..
I just don't remember..And this is how this one was sold..With this name..
I did look early European webs..They was selling few different varieties of Fracazzano...But no pictures, just names..
And they don't want to ship here any way...
Your tree look very good!
I'm happy you love the taste!
This is most important to have a fig what taste great!
And produce many of them...

Hi, Ben!
Do you know I was thinking about your words all last night..
And first I even was thinking to look my Pay Pal to see from who I got this fig, but after all I decide I do not need to do so..
Why?
I got this fig on Ebay from a member of this forum, actually I got more figs from this person also..
This person was very nice, very helpfull to me and every word about this fig come true...
So, I did trust this person back then and I trust this person now..
So, I check again with European webs..
For sale now available
Fracazzano Bianco
Fracazzano Nero
Fracazzano Rosso
Fracazzano Sguro..
So, which one do you have, so I can check rest of them?

Olga, my ficazzana is the white, which is actually green/yellow. I know that there are darker varieties. The link below is for a Southern Italy site that sells both white and red. WIll update and post more sites as I locate them in my favorites list (a mile long).

The ficazzana and fracazzana are synonyms, the pictures for the white and red varieties are the 10th and 11th down... Note that the shape is different than your picture

So, you think you have Fracazzano Bianco..
Ok, I need check 2 other I do have on a list..
At list this is little bit easy then check 3 of them..
I think I will call and speak next week with sellers in Europe..
I do have a phone number..
Thank you for info..
I was kind wondering before which one I do have..
First I was little bit surprise when I find out they do have more then one..
But this was before I post a pictures..
And because..I more and more agree with Martin about dark figs..I decide I have no point to find out...
But one thing for sure..
I do have 400 figs here, 200 varieties and I do not have another one like this..

Hi, Ben!
This start to be interesting..
Look what I found..

Now even more interesting..
I copy pics from European forum..Here pics of Fracazzano Bianca
Look red inside..
I don't have red..
But I think I and this guy web I give before have same fig..Look on my previous pics of Fracazzano..
So, very intersting what we all have..
Also I find out info..Fracazzano don't look like Italian honey and all, or Latarulla..But leaves on yours look like them..I do have both of them..
So, here real mess.. in all this info..

Hi Olga,

Have you seen the Fracazzano Nero figs?

The eye on these figs are slightly larger than the other hybrid figs, but once you cut the fig in half you see that the fig is nicely sealed on the inside. As to flavor, these figs have a very nicely balanced flavor that is not too jammy but refreshing and are pleasant to eat as they peel very easily leaving the very tender inside part. I am very happy with these figs beside tasty, they are perfectly shaped and beautiful to look at on one of my most productive trees in its first year.

Sas, thanks for posting this. My first year FN did not produce figs because I pulled off all the embryos during the growing season. I received my cuttings from Tatyana. Next year will be very productive, I am certain. I was wondering if your source was the same.

Hi, Frank!
I'm pretty sure Tatyana have Dal'Osso bianko..

I lost all my FN cuttings this year..
So, hopefully I will do better next time...
Olga.
