Free cuttings!

I have unk Louisiana heirloom cuttings, I'm gunna cutt back my trees in the next few days and will have lots of cuttings, very healthy, I took cuttings from one of my trees 20 days ago and already have roots growing on them ( in damp long fibered sphagnum moss). These trees are very hardy, several years ago the temp here got down to 0 degrees, and it didn't hurt the trees it ony killed back the tips (6") of the branches that spring it came back no problem! The tree never drops the figs even after they get ripe, when ripe some of them will get very small cracking on the thin outer layer of skin if it rains heavy, even that don't happen very often, The figs taste Very good, I'v tasted many figs and these are by far my favorite of all!! They're very sweet, like eating candy!!! They are also good preserved, or dried!! I'm not tring to make money just asking for shipping cost ($5) will ship in the usa only, or will trade for other fig varieties! I can ship you a small live fig tree but shipping will be more! I also have apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, mulberry, plumb, and pecan trees! For cuttings.

If your interested PM me. Allen. Z8 North louisiana

That's a generous offer. Can U tell us more about this fig -- like what color(interior/exterior), 2 crop or one, close eye or open eye,
medium size or large.

sounds like a good one thanks for the offer.

I have five trees they are very old 45years + planted by my grandfather, our favorite tree has figs that when they get ripe, one is light purplish brown with red center(sweetest), one is reddish brown w/pink center, one is dark brown w/red center (smallest), and the other two are grayish brown w/pink center, most are medium size, although one seems to be sweeter they all taste very good, sweet and rich!! I'm just learning about figs and fig wasp, I'm not sure if the eyes are open or closed, I have looked at figs online for a long time (how I found this site). trying to find out what kind they are but nothing is exactly like them. I have ask older family members that was raised here in the 60's, and have lived here all their lives and they just say "Louisiana heirlooms", no one knows what type they are! I'm hoping this summer when they get ripe someone here will know what kind they are!!! My whole family loves these trees, I'd like to get them out and growing all over the USA!!

Thanks Allen. Z8 Elm Grove Louisiana

Allen, could any of the ones you described be Celeste?

When I first started trying to find out what they were finding that a lot of old fig trees in Louisiana are Celeste I just assumed our favorite one here was Celeste, but the more I looked at, and read online about Celeste I'm not so sure, for one the pictures are not very close to what I have, and then I'v read that Celeste sometimes drops figs, and that Celeste often crack, swells and splits, my fig never drop off the tree, and through the years I'v only seen them get very small surface cracks a few times right after a rain! It could be a Celeste or a lot like a Celeste! Anyway If I found out it was Celeste I'd be happy with that!! Then the other three varieties are different, look, size, and taste!

Thank you!
Allen.

A very generous offer, Allen!  It is really wonderful when folks save and share these old trees!

Yes i got cuttings from him and they are so nice looking and heathy. Thanks allen from another louisiana fig friend. I cant wait to see what these guys are. Have they broke bud yet.

Hello   Allen,.........I'm from Papua Indonesia  can you  send me a fig cutings  and shipping to indonesia?

Thanks for the interesting info Allen. Its great to ensure these heirloom fig variants are not lost. I am sure forum members would gladly
help to try to id these variants.

I'd have to ask someone here that knows more about shipping to help me,, explain how to package it to make the trip, how much it would cost, or even if it Is legal! I'd be happy to I just really don't know if I can!!!! Let me go to the post office and ask and I'll get back with you!!! I'll try!!!
Allen.

Allen, the easiest way to ship is just to wrap each cutting in saran or plastic wrap and then in a padded envelope (cheap at the Dollar Tree).  That will keep them from drying out on the trip.  It's legal in the USA.  I receive cuttings from members all the time in California with no problems.  $5.00 should cover the cost of shipping AND the envelope.  You can recycle envelopes too.  Just paste the address label over the previous one.

Ritchie. (Figpig66). Only one has broken bud and already has some tiny figs. The other 4 have not, they all break at different times, just a few days apart! Like clock work every year!

It is very generous of you to share your family heirloom fig so others can enjoy it and it can be carried on. It sounds like a lovely one to try.

You can also send fig cuttings wrapped in plastic baggies and send in a small flat rate box ..one rate..any weight.. Priority mail.  Cost $5.95  for me to get a nice box of cuttings sent from TX. Check @ the P.O

Hi Allen,

Don't take this the wrong way -- I am not trying to be pushy or ungrateful for your offer -- but just trying to find out if things are on track.  I sent an email, PM, and payment by Paypal fairly quickly after you made the offer & I have not heard anything back.  Just trying to be sure I have not somehow slipped through the cracks.  it sounded like things were hectic for you & I imagine that it might not be difficult to get missed under those circumstances.

Thanks,
John

John. I sent out the last of the cuttings yesterday thanks!

I never received pm back.. So I knew I would not receive any cuttings, but I think it was a lovely gesture of you to offer them, and a lot of work and time mailing them out. I hope every one who receives them has good luck rooting them, and I look forward to updates with pictures. If you offer again at a later date keep me in mind...  :)

Ginny

Thanks, Allen. I just got mine today, I appreciate it and am really looking forward to finding out what variety it may be.
