Free Lattarulla Fig in Delaware

I have a large Lattarulla Fig that I would like to remove.  Free to anyone who wants it and will help me dig it out.  I am in Wilmington, Delaware (near I-95, about 15 miles south of Philly Airport).  Reply to this or PM me if interested.

Ron, did it not do well for you there?

Love your moniker. :)

My Lattaulla has not fruited well for me.  I think it fruits mainly on old wood and, after this winter, it will probably be re-growing from the base (i.e. all new wood - so again, no fruit).  It might do better for someone interested in wrapping it in the winter.  I just want an easier fig now - something like a Brown Turkey or Chicago Hardy - that fruits readily on new wood (i.e. something I don't need to protect).

Go get 'em Shailesh. Instant tree!

Yup, that will beat those cuttings, if you can protect it in the winter!  What a score!

There ya go instant tree for you !

allentown.. isn't that where six flags is? went there during my jhs senior trip.. what a fun.

wow, nice Shailesh, what a great project you got in hands... we need pictures you know... throughout the entire process of digging and transplanting you need to take gazillions of pictures for us ;)

A very Big Thank you to a generous forum member Ron.
We had to work hard to dig up the Lattarulla fig tree and he was very nice to give me two beautiful hydreageas also.

Sincerely,

Shailesh

That's awesome! Looks like a lot of digging, hope it thrives in its new home.

Awesome work guys, It's a nice thing to see a precious tree saved...you are going to need to trim that lovely tree.
Can we get some cuttings at least? LOL

Holy moly! That was quick!

Very nice looking tree......

hole dug... now what? stones for drainage, lime & compost?

Ron, how the heck are you keeping palmetto bushes alive in Delaware? O.o

Also, wish I would have seen this thread sooner, but congrats Shailesh on the tree.  If anyone else needs one dug up I can help. :)

some potting soil  under the roots and when you water, use Vitamin B1 in water... you can get it from Home Depot... that will help new root growth.

Hi sppsp,
Well done.
Now I would use compost only or half compost half local dirt to fill the hole - but it is up to you to choose.
Make the hole bigger so that the tree can find good dirt while expending her roots.

hole dug out                                                                                         fig shape ( my daughter's idea)                                    how should we fill it

heavy lifting                                                                            filled with native dirt and potting mix                               my daughter saved the lady bug before filling with dirt

cleaned up (also planted the hydrangeas next to the silver maple)

Nice Job, congrats. This will absolutely need periodic photo updates .

I would stake the tree. There is not enough root to anchor the tree, especially during moderate to high wind situation. Drive a stake a couple of feet out from between each trunk. Then tie each limb to each of the stakes next to it and through the tree to the stake behind it. Treat each trunk as if you were staking individual tree.

What is the purpose of the border?
