We dress warm !

I am putting tomato cages around my newly planted figs. I will fill with straw and wrap in plastic. Pots will come in and bigger in grounds fend for themselves. Lowest temps (around freezing) are between 5:00 and 7:00 am. So not a prolonged chill.

Are you serious?
Yesterday (Sunday) was 80*F+ here!

They are forecasting -6C for us in the city (-10C) in the country.  Good thing I have only uncovered a few figs and they are still dormant.

I put out my larger pots on Saturday hoping they would change the forecast up, even just a few degrees, it didn't work out.... Now I have to wheel them back in, 30 is just a bit to cold to chance it, after these few days it looks promising that they can go out and stay out.

I wrapped the newbies in burlap and straw. I had tomato cages at the ready and created little tepees, using zip ties to attach burlap to tomato cage. . I have insulation around but want the plants to breathe so I did not use. Looks like it will be between 30-34 for about two hours over next two days and then it quickly gets to 40.

I have to move my plants into the garage tomorrow night

I'm not sure when it will start, but I think it's supppesed to be heavy rain tomorrow, I'm going to bring them in tonight. The pots will be heavy enough as is, let alone rain soaked, plus I don't want to be rain soaked either.

it will start raining this evening here then all day tomorrow.tomorrow night shouldn't be an issue. but wed, it will be high of 58 and droopping to 33. Will have to monitor and might have to pull in some of the older trees too.

tho, so far, weather has been better than last yr. less rain, more sunlight. some high temp too.

Yeah, I'm really PO about this. I have 2 figs in pots. One is definitely alive and leafed out, the other one was alive several weeks ago but seems to be in a coma. I don't want to take any chances. I have tomatoes and some other tender plants I am going to have to cover up. My plants that are still in pots are coming in till it warms up.I don't have a whole lot of light for them, but I think they'd rather have low light for a few days than freezing cold. God, please let this be the LAST freeze of the spring. Please, please, please!

All 3 of my fig trees have buds opening now, Negronne, Battaglia and a Red Greek. After making it thru this past winter the last thing I want to have happen is to have the new growth get frozen.

Ive got a couple of my basement grown fig trees transplanted and outside. Ill have to move those into the garage too.

Seems like my grape vines are the smartest plants in the garden. The have not opened their buds yet.

I planted 40' of red and yellow onions and 40' of yellow and red potatoes on Saturday. Last week I put in snap peas. Garlic went in last November and is 10" tall now.

I guess it's back into the garage for 11 containers. At least it is only a couple of days and bordeline freezing for me. We'll be ok. Enjoy the shuffle figgers!

Spring = Spring up  + Spring Down

I wish it was 11 containers, 6 18 gallon, 3 30-40 gallons, about 12 7 gallons and 6-7 more smaller ones are easy.  Tonight the oleander stays out but tuesday it has to come back in for a night.

Its now snowing and everything is turning white .  lol
