Fresh Carini cuttings available for purchase

I'm offering my 'unknown' Carini cuttings once again, this time, earlier than usual.  No frost damage, pruned to order, and great rooters.  I may eventually place some on Ebay, but they will be cheaper here on the forum.
For $13 you will receive 3 cuttings, pencil sized or thicker, with at least 3 nodes per cuttings.  This price includes 1st Class Mail shipping in a padded envelope.  Cling wrap will be used without any additional moisture.  If interested, please send me a private message to exchange Paypal email addresses.  For newer members, please search the forums for feedback from myself and other growers who have already grown this variety.  Below is some history, including pictures.  FMV has not been an issue for me, but please assume it has it, as different environments may bring it out.  Thank you.

Description:

  • HISTORY:  Brought over from Carini, Sicily in the early 70s from my relatives.
  • FIG CHARACTERISTICS:  Closed tight eye.  Turns to a shade of burgundy when ripe.  In my zone, they produce medium sized figs.  Flesh is strawberry colored and tastes like a sweet berry.
  • COLD HARDY:  My grandfather grew several of these in Cleveland, OH (zone 5/6) with winter protection.  He’d send me cartons full every year since I was a child.  As with any variety, they will die back in the winter unless protected.
  • PRODUCTIVITY:  Two crops.  Breba (June-July) + Main (Aug-Oct) in my zone (7).
  • GROWTH HABITS & TREE SIZE:  Cuttings seem to root easier than most varieties.  Mature height is over 12 feet tall, equally wide when allowed to grow freely.
  • CLOSEST RESEMBLANCE:  Based on my observations, I found this fig to have similarities of Gino Black.  Your results may vary depending on location and weather.

Thank you Alan.  I fixed them.  Glad to hear you're getting good growth.  Hopefully you get some figs next year.  My neighbor has a potted one I gave her and the figs were double the size of my ground tree.  I never fertilize my ground trees, but she did and it shows!

Frank!

I'd love to buy a set.

Frank, Im interested! I'll send you a message. Thx!

Hey Frank, that is awesome, I waited all year for this. Count me in please. Excellent offer!!!

I got these last year and they rocked! They all rooted like pros and the trees grew really well! I was able to gift two and still got one great fig off of one of the trees. I think it was my sweetest fig I've had. You won't be disappointed. Especially if your new to the rooting process. Thanks Frank!

Thank you Frank they look amazing. I will send you a PM.  Thank you for your generosity. And a note to those that are still trying to ripen figs, I really had great luck with oiling the belly buttons of my texas everbearing, panache, peters honey and brown turkey here at the last hurrah before the frosts in AZ Zone 10.  ;-)  Jodi

Thanks Frank pm sent.

Thanks for the feedback, Mike and Alan.  I love hearing the success stories!

I'm interested but what is meant by 'unknown'? Thanks

Jerry,

I add the 'unknown' label because it hasn't been around for more than a few years.  It could probably be labeled without the 'unknown' at this point, but it's just a way to tell people that it hasn't been matched up with any other 'known' variety yet.

Watch out!  There's a reason Frank sends these in a padded envelope.  These cuttings are wild things.  This is no Acciano that so many of us failed to root.  Don't be surprised if they arrive with 30 foot roots ready to grab bobcat sized predators.

Hey Frank, these are 3 of the cuttings that I received from you last year. The two that I did not pinch are one stem, straight up, about 4 foot tall (string beans). The middle one that I tipped early on branched out nicely and is about 3 foot tall. Can't wait to taste the fruits of my labor. Thanks a bunch.

Frank,
Very High quality cuttings!
Thank you for your generosity! Carini is is good hands!
Two are napping in moist perlite, on top of my water heater. The others two are snoring in fresh moist coconut coir from my own yard coconuts, on top of the heater, also. I want to see who performs better!

Great to hear, Berto! Looking forward to how they perform.

The cuttings arrived a couple days ago and look excellent. Many thanks for the offer, and your generosity! Looking forward to rooting them. :)

Count me in Frank. If it's not too late for 2 sets.

I got some last year, was able to root this variety even as a first time rooter.  The tree grows strong and will have fruit next season, I can't wait to try them!

Thanks for everything Frank!
