Fresh Figs for Moms Visit

Hi all, my Mom was here for a week visit last week and we had fresh figs in Nov!!!  They started turning color on Nov 1st or so.  Since she was going to arrive on the 3rd I thought it would be perfect timing.  Well my timing was off a few days lol.  We finally picked a couple on the 7th then about 8 on the 8th.  They weren's as good as the figs in the summer, but hey, I had fresh figs in Nov!!!  And they were better then no figs!

I haven't been to the tree in 2 days - I have a 3 day seninar I'm in the middle of and don't get home till after 7, to dark for fig picking.  The birds haven't touched them and no ants either.  Here are a few pictures.

Very nice pics.  I'll bet mom was pleased.  One of the really nice things about living in a southern climate is our looooooong fig picking season.

Dave, you are so right!!   Mom said her figs taste different, and yes, she was pleased to have a fresh fig in Nov.!!

I was a bit disappointed mine weren't as sweet as they were in July.  I can't wait till next season.  My first year with the tree I let it grow the way it wanted.  I didn't pinch or trim anything until a few weeks ago when I pulled up a few suckers and threw them into a couple of pots.  Next season I will pinch, just not sure on how I want to prune it.

so awesome! great looking fig.

Great looking figs Jo-Ann ! Being able to grow over a longer time period is one thing I am so looking forward to doing in FL.

Happy you were able to share your figs with your mom!  She won't forget for sure!  They look amazing!  Thanks for sharing!

Jo-Ann,

What variety fig are those?

Thanks everyone - it was a fabulous week with her - we even did a girly thing together and got our nails done! I haven't done that in years since I work in a kitchen!

Steve, the members here ID'd it as a LSU Purple.  I must say I amd very happy with it!!  They are pretty good now, but in July they were amazing.

Nope no damage at dads or mine my friend had 3ft water in his house and we had to rip out the whole basement and the walls on the whole first floor and both garages im glad moms house is ok thats all you need is to be where you are (TX) and not be able to help
