friend's grandfather's fig tree

well, a friend of mine talked about a fig tree her grandfather brought over from Italy and is finally sending me a tree.  Don't know anything about it but maybe somebody can see the address and town it's from and tell me what they think it might be.
I don't know even if it dark or green.

"THE HISTORY IS...IT GREW IN THE BRONX, NY ON 152ND STREET...MY GRANDFATHER PLANTED IT...HE SAID HE BROUGHT IT FROM UMBRIA, ITALY .WE ALL TOOK CUTTINGS FROM THAT TREE AND STARTED OUR OWN TREES."

Good luck

Umbria is in central Italy Etruscans tribes were there long before the Romans and they were very fund of figs black and green. Whatever color or kind of fig you have you can be sure it was very well selected over the years and not necessarily a common one. Many fig to this day are selected for private and not commercial use very different, you may get lucky and end up with something real special, someone definitely tough it was special enough to bring it half way around the world. You will find out soon enough, the suspence may be fun.
Good luck!!!

Awesome! I hope it does well for you. I lived on 162nd street as a child back when you could safely roam the neighborhood alone.

I asked My friend if the fig was purple or green and she says the "the inside is purple...if it gets to ripe, it all turns purple.
also did your grandfather give it a name and she says" I guess Italians didn't name their plants....so let's call it the "FIORELLI FIG"! ( I assume that was her grandfather's last name)

Anyway, will keep you posted!
