Frog on Fig

Thought you all might enjoy these pics I took this morning. I guess I have plenty of competition for those figs when they ripen. Actually I think he is helping keep the bugs under control.

We have alot of these little wood frogs around. The kids like chasing them. He is a welcome visitor anytime.

I sure wish I could keep frogs in my yard, they are so "good" for the micro-ecology. Sadly, _-IF-_ I have a snake or frog or lizard in my yard, it has a VERY short life expectancy.

In addition to the retired Narcotics Interdiction Beagle, I've got a Jack Russell who is a retired USDA / US Customs and Border Protection "Detector Dog". She spent 7 years on Guam and was trained to sniff out and "prosecute" various things, snakes and reptiles was her specialty ( she's also trained in narcotics detection.) I've watched her go up and launch off the top of a 10 foot chain-link fence just to kill a frog!

Wow. Sorry about the frogs and such, but sounds like you got a great dog. I have other natural predators that go after the frogs and salamanders (and the other small critters). The foxes, coyote, turkey vultures and hawks get alot of the little guys. But populations are pretty high since I'm in a very wooded area and within view of a lake. There is a marshy area that breeds alot of large (I call 'em Jurassic) bugs which provides a banquet for the food chain. But I do like the little frogs alot and make an effort not to disturb them much. I am on their turf anyway.
