FVM

I seem to have the fig virus. I'm sure this subject has been covered before but can't find it…. What can I do to treat the problem? Or should I just remove infected plants and isolate/burn them? Thanks, garden dowser

Try searching for "FMV" or "FMD" (fig mosaic disease).  This topic has come up a lot.  Good luck.

You can pull all leaves off is what i did and new leaves look fine but i was told next season it may come back. As far as battling the FMV SUN LIGHT AND LIQUID FERTILIZER TWICE A WEEK HELPS ALOT.

A lot of us here have caught the fig virus too.  We can't stop growing, propagating, sharing figs...  :)

Your fig will live and produce WITH FMV.  The leaves just look ugly.    Almost all figs, especially those from UC Davis have it.  It can cause problems in cold climates.  Figs grow fine and can look really ugly in Mediterranean climates.

When you step out of the box and try to grow them where they should not be grown, problems will happen.  You do not say your planting zone or location.  What is it?

Pics? There are some symptoms that have been called FMV in the past but are in fact caused by the fig mite. There is not much info available from reputable sources and ignorance of the problem helped the mite spread undetected.

If you see the symptoms spread from one plant to another you have the fig mite. If your cuttings are badly affected by FMV chances are the mothers were infested with fig mites and the cuttings may still be, they are microscopic so you need at least 30x magnification to see them.

Suzie, My zone is 6a, bordering the Ashokan Resovoir, maybe by 150 yds north, just outside Woodstock,NY, nice micro-climate. Had no problem for 3 years, then bought some plants (apparently infected) last year. They were not healthy, I should have ditched them then..... Removed the obvious ones, I'll increase the fert. they already get primo southern exposure.....   Thanks everybody for the guidence, will keep you posted. Bill

hooiserbanana, Thanks for the look out another window at the same problem... will spray with oil tomorrow and suffocate those "suckers"...  and any others that may be causing "it" to spread. Thanks again, Bill
