Galbun pics

Good day, in March, I drove down to see Mr Robin and picked up 2 Galbun figs.  I repotted them and man they took off!  I had been picking these the past 2 days but this one was worth eating.  The others I picked were not ripe enough.  The house wrens were standing by on my deck watching my container trees, so I covered my ripening figs with paper and this morning it was ready to pick.  It weighed 65g.  The past 2 weeks has been rough on my trees with the excessive 100+ degree temperatures.  Now, our temperatures are back to normal, 80s and 90s and it started raining yesterday so this fig started sucking up water and got ripe.  It was sweet but nothing to slap your momma about.  I know it will get sweeter in years to come.  Enjoy!

Any further reports on this fig? Was it ever 'slap your momma' good? ;)

(Disclaimer: No mommas were hurt in the writing of this post.)

Hi Gina, those figs were brebas and came from a very young but very fast growing plant.  I have a few figs coming off the main crop in a few weeks. My two trees came from JR.  They do have a good taste.  From what I hear from others, is that this fig is so good you have to sit down when you eat it!  It has huge beautiful green leaves like Atreano.  Today, I'm gonna have to repot my 2 trees b/c they are loving my climate too well!   In March they were in a 1 gal pot.  Today they are in a 5 gallon pot and they have out grown it!  So, today they will get a new 30gal pot.

I think they will be better next year.  I will keep you posted.

Does this fig have a really pink eye?

Thanks for the report. I look forward to hearing more. A kind member (thank you) sent a couple cuttings of this, they rooted, and I was curious.

There's drops for that.

Dominick you showed funny side and made me laugh .
Jason im sure or hoped laughed as well.

Turned out to be a very good fig.

But I'd never slap my momma no matter how good they were.

This morning as I was leaving for work. I saw ants on my one Galbun fig. It was round, yellowish green with a few cracks. I did not have my camera. I just grabbed it.....jumped in my truck and drove to work. At the stop light I looked at the fig, saying to myself, if I can't eat it either can the ants! I bite it open and to my surprise, this was the best green fig of 2014 in my climate! Sorry, no pic! But it was red inside, sweet and very rich! It's in poor soil but I'm feeding it weekly with plans to repot it this Fall with a better medium.

I really didn't expect this fig tree to produce this year but it did. Over the past 2 years, my 2 trees have been outside in SWPs. This year, it goes inside. I am glad I have this fig in my collection.

I got mine from Landscape Witch, and her description was "I have to lean against the fence when I eat one... it's that good!"  Unfortunately, mine died, but I'll secure another one of these days.

I've always considered Galbun.  Remember all those figs like UCD 185-15 or Emerald Strawberry that never got really released?  But this one did?

Sorta thought of it as competition for Atreano.  How different are they from each other, anyone know?
