Come on Calvin, your safe. You could bid higher and someone will over bid you. Do it just for the excitement.

That's part of the problem these sellers have been facing, obviuosly. Luckily I am forced to be an enthusiast due to property size and not a collector.

Who knows how many of this fig exist... maybe second chance offer was given. :)

I purchased several figs on ebay earlier this year. But I refused to go over about $25 to 30 for anything. But that's just me. :)

It is fun watching however. As someone said - like reality tv, only better.

WOW. First of all that is an extremely pretty looking fig. Congrats to the new owner.

Second. OMG. 400 dollars. Then again, you only live once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

At least it is money spent towards a good fig grower, a healthy and delicious food, and not towards junk food.

I will pray for you that your wife does not flip out.

>>> maybe second chance offer was given. :)

Very possible; and also may it have been rejected early.

There is an ebay minimum of 1 day (24 hours) time for the buyer/seller to accept/reject the offer.

I missed the whole bidding drama.  I thought you already won it on my first post when you were high bidder.  Too busy with grandkids here in Cincinnati.  So very happy for you and Bass, and good luck finding that new house!

Congratulations on the baby!

Suzi

My wife decides, out of the blue, she doesn't want to raise the baby in the Cali desert lol SO I have been entertaining the thought of moving.

Thanks Suzi! Its our first baby! At least my baby will grow up eating figs he/she normally would never get a chance to try. Especially from an area, we had our honeymoon on!

Howie , that is great! Congratulations to you and your wife. When's your baby due?

We are blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren - 3 boys and 1 girl from our daughter and son in law.

We were just told that our son and daughter in law are now expecting their first child ! We are over the moon happy !!

Over $400!!!  wow, that certainly was an expensive variety!

Grow it in health, enjoy and best of luck for you and your wife with a new baby on the way. As for the move, it could be just a passing fancy. No offense ladies, but sometimes when you're with child, you have wild ideas. She might just be concerned about providing an ideal environment, which you will do wherever you live.

Wild ideas,lol...Hilarious! But true.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!! Just start at 400.00 and watch everybody bid it up!!!!

Haha Calvin,
You talked me into it.
I'm gonna bid now too, then bail out if/when it gets crazy!
I do like the look of it though.

@Howie- Sell the cuttings to offset the investment. I will buy some.

>>> Sell the cuttings to offset the investment.
For crying out loud; it is just a 15-18" green twig!
Possible in the future.

Last time I saw I fig tree going for 400+, was back
in 1996 at Belleclare. It was one of BC's mature mother trees, ~6' tall,
1.5-2.0" girth, in very large pot - marked for buyer (who else?) Martha Steward...

I wasn't going to say it but I feel strongly enough to...

F4F members don't hear of a tree( fresh newbies) and then it's the next hot thing because it's either unheard of or everyone else is talking about it. I remember when it was Sal's Corleone. Then it was Maltese Falcon. Last few weeks it has been RDB.

Now this insanity!

I'm telling you Right Now- Next hot one is going to be either Negretta, Valle Negra/ Valle Calda/ Nero 600, and Dall'osso.

Whoever paid 400+ is out of their f'n mind and don't know what they are doing.

I don't care how big a tree is, a cutting will get you a lot further, money and satisfaction wise.

Dominick is absolutely right .

If you look at who is bidding they are all very recent members who obviously don't know they could get cuttings and even plants for next to nothing if they wait a bit and make some friends here .
They will look back and realize their mistake soon enough . This is an interesting looking fig but that is all at this point . Even if it was amazing you are still wasting your money , it's only a twig .

John

$405 WOW

How do you guys know who is bidding?  I've never been able to see who my bidding opponent is, but I don't bid much on Ebay.

I don't think we can assume that a member here is bidding unless he or she fesses up.  There are other people out there bidding that have never even heard of this forum.

But if you are a bidding member here, I wish you luck and joy with your wins, and congratulations to the member sellers here!

Suzi

I happily paid 405.00, and I'm certainly not out of my mind. What exactly bugs you when I buy a tree? My prerogative, even if I paid 1k for it, who cares? It's my business and my finances. Not sure why you'd have an issue.

Sour grapes Howie, congrats.

Really Brent! Glad I didn't PM you with Cutting offerings.

Yeah Howie maybe if you stayed around longer you would have paid nothing for it.

Stupid asses!

I can only say that this is a hobby as well as many other hobbies that people spend a lot of money for. I know that the sellers are going the extra mile to obtain these unique varieties of figs, and also spends a lot of time and money to bring those varieties to USA. I know $ 400 sounds like a lot of money for many here including me. But if I had that kind of money I would not hesitate to spend them for some varieties that I want. After that probably my wife would divorce me.

Did not mean to offend Dom. Just my impression and it could be wrong. I can understand you wanting to prevent others from spending their life savings too. On the other hand, Bass' kids need a college fund. With a business it is important to get the most from something like this, because as you say, it will be much more readily available in the future and not as valuable. I am taking business courses so I am looking at it from that standpoint. I realize now that the phrase "sour grapes" has a selfish note and I am sorry, that is not you at all.
