Geganta and its' summer cuttings

This is one of my latest additions from this past winter. A friend got some cuttings from another friend and shared a couple with me.

It grew well and was roughly four feet tall till I noticed a crack on the stem roughly fifteen inches from the top.

It was crystalizing at the crack and I didn't know what it was so I cut it off and sanitized the cut and covered in melted candle wax.

I then used the roughly fifteen inch cutting by making it into two green summer cuttings and potted them into ProMix HP (this time).

The tree it self has new growth and does not appear affected and the green cuttings are adjusting well and growing. I figured what the heck? What have I got to lose? The leaves on the cutting in the 3rd picture were just starting off at the time I potted it.

Another example nothing should go to waste.

Please enjoy the pictures,

Good job, Rafed!  I hope the fig is worthy of your efforts.

Suzi

Nice Rafed, thanks for posting! :)

Rafed,

Can you tell us how you sanitized the cut? Thanks.

Von

Good job with green cuttings, anything you do different than with dormant? I have almost the success rate by treating them both with the same method.

Von,

I use hydrogen peroxide and burn the cut just a bit to contain the bleeding. Then I melt the candle wax to seal it.

Wayne,

Summer cuttings go directly into the potted soil and place under the shade or filtered sun.

Ryan,

This is Geganta, totally different from the CDD Gegantina.

Looks good, I never tried a green cutting I always thought it would just rot I will have to try that someday

Dave,

You should try it. I promise you will love it.

gigante with an "i" and "e" is 'giant' in Portuguese. One of those nouns that have no variation, however, by use of the misuse of the word, it has been incorporated as 'giganta' for a giant female...  Could be yours yet another variation of Giganta?  Another Portuguese fig? How big are the fruits?

No fruit yet Grasa. But was told close to 90g. in weight.
But the spelling is correct. It is Geganta.

Next year this fruits for you!
