generous members who don't ask for recognition

To you all,

I want to take a minute and thank all the members who have sent me cuttings this year. I haven't and won't name them as I ask for that privacy when I send someone cuttings.

If these members wanted credit they would have mentioned their gifts in a post. I have found if someone offers to send me a plant or cutting if it's done in private I'm far more likely to get it then when someone makes an offer in public in front of the other members. This says something about our behind the scenes strength.

This community contains many kind and generous folks who I'll have a hard time repaying as I just don't have enough varieties they don't own. But I can thank them again here (even without naming them).

So,
THANK YOU FELLOW MEMBERS FOR ALL YOUR GENEROUS GIFTS !!

This forum has been a bit wonky (definition #4 in the Urban Dictionary defines as "crazy, not quite right, out of sorts, a mix of bonkers and wacky" - and although this term is usually used for technology -- I just like it.) lately and I think we need to look at what makes us strong and valuable as a group of fig fanatics. We represent an excellent place to get answers, make friends, locate hard to find varieties, share photos, etc. Lately we've been a bit negative and I think that just isn't who we are. In moving forward if we concentrate on the positive we can stop the weirdness and wonky vibes and get back to the business of helping each other.

Thanks for listening.
MGG

In full agreement.

Ditto!

I agree.  Look what was handed to me by the mailman today:

My suggestion for the wonkiness is this:  Don't respond to negative posts.  If you ignore them they can't escalate.  The truth will come out in time.  If the post is about you just give a simple "It's not true, sorry you feel that way" but don't escalate the war.  It takes courage but people respect courage.  :)

1000% agree!!!!!!  Too many good things and good people here.

I would much rather avoid "wonkiness" and just stick to the interesting bits of information that is shared via the forums.  Life is too short to get bogged down in unproductive discussion.

Thanks MGG for expressing your appreciation for member's generosity.   I too have a deep appreciation for the sharing of knowledge that has occurred on the forum and from individual contacts that originated through the forum.   It is that sharing of knowledge that benefits the entire community and in turn, will benefit those that do the sharing.

I am also appreciative of those that have shared cuttings with me over the years and I have tried to do the same when possible.   I have also tried to share bits of knowledge that I have uncovered over the years, hoping that it might be interesting to folks that can use the information.   Research is one of my strong suits when I have the time.

Thanks Rcantor for your thoughts above.   Those are good guidelines to follow in order to keep the ship moving on a steady course.

I agree with all of the above. So glad we are now returning to a state of calm and learning. Without each other's input and generosity, as well as mutual respect, none of our individual collections or knowledge on the subject would be as great as they are today.

oh.. too many to mention. they are all great :)))

You guys said it.  Just from my trade thread, I'm absolutely mind-blown at how generous and giving this community is.  I feel like we're all good friends, and I wish I could shake everyone's hand who's helped me out with questions, trades, and transactions.
We should do a "show your face" thread one day.  :)  I'll post my kids on my behalf...kidding.

I agree with all of the above. This is a good bunch of people overall. I don't have time to deal with drama in my life let alone online. I just don't tolerate it in my life in any way, shape, or form. Thankfully, on here, it is by far the minority of people. It's hard to be grumpy when nurturing nature and the fruit it gives. The gifts people have given me makes me smile. I hope to return the favor(s) some day.

There have been some very generous members that I have met so far and very courteous and willing to share information as well which is always very important and very much appreciated.  I just hope that I can also keep the spirit open and alive as well as they have shown me.

Very well stated comments by those commenting on the wonkiness. I agree.

Robert. Looks like you were just handed a bundle of "clear my schedule, I've got plant material to work on" :-) !

I just received two packages today myself from very generous members. Thanks folks!

For the past couple of years I've told my self "I'm not going to add but one or two varieties this season".
But then I always seem to get folks who want to do some trades or just give some cuttings away. A fig orchard is never complete :-} !

Agreed and agreed.
Got almost all I need already (famous last words) LOL

the people on this forum i think show the exact kindness in human nature that is often taken for granted. if everyone could respond to every situation in life the way forum members respond to questions, trades, or gifts. this world would be a much better place, a utopia of sorts. I myself have tried to help as good as i can but relize just starting out like many others here it may beawhile before we can contribute like so many others can. but in the do course of time us newbeies will oneday join the ranks of the oldtimers.

The people on this forum are the best there is, who trade, gift, or just send cuttings while giving infinate amounts of knowlage. my collection like many others are growing simply do to your kindness.

Thanx to all who have given, Thanx to all who will give, and thanx to all who havent made it yet.

Best regards
Dave

I echo your comments, Michael.  I have bought cuttings, maybe one variety, and almost every seller has sent multiple varieties, not just the variety I purchased.  I have had wonderful list members simply reach out and say, "I'm sending you something special."  It has been a delight and pleasure being a forum member here, and I've learned so much about various fig cultivars from all around the world.  I just love hearing about how figs fit into everyone's culture, country, history.  I love the sharing of knowledge, recipes, how to start cuttings, it's been a great experience!  I really look forward to "passing it on" to future new forum members, as well as finding ways to pay it back to some of our fine forum members who have generously assisted me in my lovely fig collection.

A+

A year ago I started out wanting one nice Mission fig. Now I have maybe ?? 60 varieties with even more currently rooting. I really don't know - it depends on when you ask me. And I'm afraid to make a list, lol. I've purchased many, and many others were generously given to me as gifts or in trades. A warm thank you.

While I'm very grateful, I'm still not sure if you all have given me interesting figs ...or some dreaded contagious disease. I should check to see if my blood still flows red, or if it's now milky white.

Either way, it's been a blast.

mgg et al:   +1

Mike

Thank you for starting a positive post.  I know you have extended a hand in helping others on this forum.  Thank you!

I wholeheartedly agree - love positivity - posts, attitudes , sharing, helping, all the great things that make it a wonderful experience here.
Thanks for all the unbelievable generosity from members here!

I absolutely agree with everything stated above.

Ouí monsíeur. I agree.

I'm relatively new and I agree. This forum has really kind and knowledgeable folks.

I agree as well.  When I think in Oct last year there was not a fig in the house, but thanks to generous members here on the forum I have 16 varieties either in 1 gallon pots or in the frig waiting to be started this weekend.  And it wasn't only the cuttings that got me where I am today, but the generous sharing of knowledge from members........thank you.
