Genovese Nero

i know this one is hard to get. i have trade agreement going. just want to know what it tastes like.

from adrino's web site, it says it's 'mild' tasting. what does that mean? i know it's very big fig and works well in container from that same site.

just wondering if anyone tasted this fig before and if so what it taste like.

I have not tasted this fig but Adriano have mentioned many times in our conversation on how great this one is. He had always said this is his best tasting fig & likely one of the best in the world. It seems he had tree for like 30 years.

good to know. did he mention what it tastes like? i only had two different type of figs, fresh figs.. VdB tastes like raspberry. Paradiso Gene tastes like melon.. any clue? or does it just taste like.. fig?

Pete --  Adriano did mentioned taste but I cannot remember. Somehow whenever we chat, he would always mentioned this ONE. Lately I have been coming across quite a few members in USA having this variant but I am not sure whether it originated from Adriano's plant.

Paully,

Original source.on this is Adriano. I guess ill find out what it taste like in about 2 yrs :)

@ Pete, Congrats in having a gem. I look forward to knowing how well this gem will do in other parts of the continent.

Pete,

This fig is considered to be the Grand Daddy of all figs.
Take good care of it.

Did you get it from a local source?

rafed,

this GN is from a member in US. however, the original source is adriano in canada.

i lost all Unknown Israelis Red over the winter. however, your White Greek is going great.

the trade won't happen till few weeks later. he just put his GN into 1 gal pot. and i think i should get more roots on my KB.

thanks,
pete

This one is definitely on my wish list. As you say hard to locate, anybody got a spare??

Rafed, I like your description "Grand Daddy". It is even difficult to own this variant here.

Mine is a 1ft stem with a branch extending another foot or so. I plan on air layering the branch when I get home. I want two trees of this variant.
Hopefully this will force the stem to branch out more.

Hopefully I wil be able to help others in a couple years.

Paul, I also have the Grand Momma. Genovese Bianco.

Genovese Bianco... is that like Genovese Nero, but white? or is it something completely different? another fig to look into.

Pete

Pete,

To my knowledge yes, it is the same but white

BTW, I'll try to help you get some more Isreali Reds. No promises.

rafed,

thanks.
