This is my first large Genovese Nero that matches the appearance of the pic on Adriano's website. I've eaten a few smaller ones it put out but this one was a real gem. The flavor was a little washed out from all the rain, but the softness of the fruit was unbelievable, and the sweetness and flavor of this fig is superb. Best fig I own bar none, and the fact that it made it through the monsoon without splitting is even more amazing! Every fig I own is splitting...

Hi Cal, thanks for sharing the pics.  Just wanted to warn you of the mistake your making with your little one.  About six years ago I got my first fig trees from Home Depot 2 Celeste with a few ripe and almost ripe figs on them.  I shared them with my granddaughter.  Big mistake.  Now there are 4 trees that last year were about head high that I planted 3 or 4 year ago between our houses.  Last year they were covered with figs and I only got a couple of figs all season from them.  I asked her little brothers one day what was going on they said Jaylee is up early every morning and comes out here and eats them all up before we can get some.

Looking good Cal, keep me updated on this one. If it truly puts up with the rain you and I have to talk. The only figs I have that is making it through all the rain in O'Rourke and Alma. I'm hoping that the weather dries out by the time that the J.H. Adriatic and Strawberry begin to ripen. They are later figs so I might get some from those as they are loaded.

Nice fig and beautiful daughter you have;) I like to get my kids involved as well! I havent found anything I can grow that they wont gobble down. Even tomatoes!!! Ive never seen 3 and 5 year old boys eat up tomatoes as fast as you can slice them!!! Keep up the good work!

I am not getting too excited about this one yet since it is still in a pot.  I am planning on putting it in the ground first thing next spring so then i will see how it handles the rain.  It has a small open eye, but just for it to not spoil in this weather tells me it is somewhat resistant to splitting.

Thanks!  She will eat anything sweet you put in front of her, but apparently she inherited her sour receptors from her mother as she won't even touch my tomatoes, oh well more for me i guess...Nice fish by the way, Is that a speckle trout? 

Yup, my boy caught that trout 4 years ago here in Galveston Bay. Stretched the tape to 29 1\2 inches and weighed just under 9lbs. She was spawned out unfourtunatly. She would have went over 10lbs full of eggs. Got a replica made of her on the wall to see in all her glory every day;) Ive been beating this water to a froth for 25 years and never put one on the boat that big. My son did it at 9 years old!!!! Begginers luck!!!!

Ha!  That's a real hog, Fish of a lifetime...I caught a 6lber when I was about nine in the surf near the mouth of the Sabine River, and I've never beat that one...go figure...

I tried to explain to him the magnitude of what he just accomplished at such a young tender age. I still dont think its set in for him. I told him he may fish the rest of his life and never see another trout that big much less catch one. I was proud of him though;) He deserves it, hes a great kid and one heck of fisherman. He still rubs it in my face to this day though. I may go to the grave with this one!

My 1st biggie breba for 2014 season Genovese Nero split badly on the next day I posted a pic
last week from light rain. Saw a bunch of insects flying around its rear and I disposed it. Another
is just about fully ripen, almost same size with no split yet as I withheld watering & had tree sitting
just outside the front door in shade.

The fig looks great and the little girl is beyond adorable:)  

Cal, nice fig, and if that little redhead is yours,  she's a keeper, too.

Thank you all so much for the compliments on my daughter. She's definitely a keeper, but it's gonna be a hell of a challenge to spoil her rotten!!
