A 10+ ? It can't get any better. Art, do you have a photo of the entire tree?

Wayne, Here's one of the trees. I'm 6'4" and I can't reach to the top of this tree. It was rooted in 2012/13.

Hi Art. Here are leaves of mine, which I got from Harvey C, as a rooted plant early this season. It is in a half wine barrel, and has 6 figs which will ripen in a few weeks. The leaves are similar to my Black Madeira and Figo Preto, but the GN has mostly 5 lobed leaves, with no single lobe and very few 3 lobed. Nice that you are eating so many, I hope to soon.

Art, that is very nice. I was just comparing the leaves as we talked about. They are just similar but not the same.
I think mine may be a bust for GN.

As Gary wrote above, my plants have 5 lobes.

I had a fruit that should have ripened last week but some critter stole it, stem included. I have one that will be ripe tomorrow or the day after and several more that should ripen with a week.

I obtained my original cuttings from Robert Dushaj.  From what I understand, the cutting for Robert's tree was collected directly from Adriano's tree (reported from a reliable source).

Look forward to this getting straightened out.

I will do my best to eliminate this from the list of rare varieties. :)
   

Art, you definately have the real thing. I agree with what you said about similarity to black Madeira and preto you are right they are similar not the same but very similar.

HarveyC, does this look like yours? It came from the same person.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that Art, Harvey, Paul, Phil, Mike all have the real deal. That's all I'm going to say here. The bit of difference can be attributed to your climate. Fair and simple.

Now the question remains do I have the real deal?

Mike, that looks the same, though the pulp of mine was darker last year.  Will give an updated photo of fruit in a day or two unless some critter takes it again.  Your fruit also has the dark bleeding into the rind.  Fruit shape and skin color look same as mine from last year.  This year my fruits were caprified so seem to be larger (don't know if the one last year was).

My leaves look like Mikes. Rafed I had noticed last years main crop that I got and this years Breba that they drooped and were soft for a while before they changed color to dark red. I think its because the weather was cooler both times.

Like Wills, I've already killed two.  I received cuttings from Uncle Rafed in 10.2012.  Both rooted, but one died shortly after being potted up.  The second did not break dormancy this year.  I was not planning on putting it back on my wish list because of the short growing season in Denver.  You guys raving about it, however, has me second guessing myself.

Does anybody growing GN in the deep south have a review?  In case it doesn't work out in Denver, I'd like to know if it would do well with the intense heat in Texas.

I have one here in CO and it is doing well. I'm waiting for the first figs to ripen, but may have to wait another year as the tree got a little too dry while I was out of town. I also have one at my folks new place in Stamford TX and it is going gangbusters. It has produced several huge figs this summer already. Too bad I haven't gotten to taste any of those :(
