Gentile Bianco (Breba) - 2016

I enjoyed this fig today on my small Gentile Bianco. This will be a breba only producing fig for me here in Canada. I am growing this potted (in ground). It was a good sized fig and rich in flavour. Nice and syrupy. I'd scarf down a plate of these if I had them in front of me! :)   Very happy with this one for the quality of its breba.

Looks like a good fig! Would you consider it better in taste than Desert King?

Hi Timo, I am waiting to try my first desert king hopefully within a couple weeks from my tree I planted inground last year. I can give you a comparison then. I have to say though I wouldn't be upset if this one was my only breba producing variety! :)

Tyler

Hey Tyler is that the same as Bianco

Hi Ralph... I'm not sure about that? I don't have that one. This one was sourced from Greece but is supposed to be an italian variety. I think it also goes by just Gentile or Fico Gentile. Here is a link to an old gardenweb post that shows the same fig. Sounds like its a San Pedro (my main crop dropped last year but was its first year).

Hi Tyler.
I have a Fico Gentile, I hope it's the same as yours.

Vito

I just went out to check on another one that's been drooped over for a few days. When I lifted it to have a look (its a small plant so figs are only 10" off the ground) it snapped off. It could have used a few more days but still was excellent flavour and texture. A very nice morning treat!!

I hope it is too Vito because its a nice tasting fig :)

Wow, you plant your desert king in ground?

Your Gentile Bianco (Breba)  look very nice.  it is pink flesh or amber flesh? Honey taste?

Ricky yes I did in the spring of 2015. I wrapped it with old carpet & underpad with leaves stuffed in the centre.

This Gentile Bianco is a honey tasting fig with nice richness too.  Its amber with a hint of pink i guess..

Tyler

Your Gentile Bianco's fig look better than Italian honey, very nice.

I just plant my young Desert king in ground from cutting, I am hoping that I have some fig next year.

Figs on my Unk Italian's are near ripen, I can taste it in next few day, I have been waiting for it for 6 years, I hope that it taste good.

Hey Tyler
Great looking fig!
Not sure what you mean that for you this will be a breba only fig?
An Italian nursery describes it as cold hardy, a great early fiorone (breba) producer (end of June) and early main crop producer end of August.  They didn't mention San Pedro type.  here is link;

That would be great if it turns out to be a common fig Pino. :)

Very cool tree, it looks tasty!
