Let this be a lesson.  Never publicize an auction you want to win.  As Qui-Gon used to say, there's always a bigger fish.  Although in this case it was probably someone waiting for the last second.  Many people do that.

And it is a spectacular, healthy tree.  You go, Herman2!!

In A thousand years I could not think an Auction for a fig tree can go so high, but it did.
Mi hands are tight,I do not control the Auction.
I sold good figs for $26 shipping included, before,of course not Ronde de Bordeaux, but other decent cultivars like Marseilles black vs..

Herman, congratulations on your sale!  We'd all love to know who bought it, but we know it's your little secret!  Whatcha gonna do with all that money?  Well, Christmas is coming.... :-)

I read all the communication between you and Jen, and she asked all the right questions, and you answered, and someone took advantage of her, BUT the good side is, this particular fig will now cost her nothing!  I have one for her for free!!  It's not two years old, but it's a rooted shoot of another and it's hers!

I had estate stuff on ebay earlier this year, and a cousin saw something I had listed and she said she'd pay me for it, but I couldn't break the Ebay rules, so I had to let the auction roll.  Luckily nobody bid, and she got it!!  When you sell on Ebay, you really have zero control.

Suzi

There's two ways to look at it. For one, some have paid 150.00 for a small air layer, very small Ronde. This person who bought this, got a nice size tree, that they will enjoy fruit next year. This tree looked to be 2 years old, not a stick out of the ground. With all this said, Wholly Crap..Batman

Jenn, Suzi...send me a PM. Christmas may come sooner than you think.

Oh boy!! That is the highest ebay price for a fig to date, exceeding even Jolly Tiger in price. Jenn, looks like your getting one afterall, at a tremendous price, free!. Herman, conrgatulations to you!

I'm wondering if the Figs4Fun Foundation should donate trees to auction fig trees on Ebay, and the proceeds go to the foundation... Hmmmmmmm

Suzi

Suzi that's a great idea! I definitely have trees to donate for the foundation.

Right place, right time, right product.

Jon has done that for years on ebay-usually in spring

Jenny, I wanted to PM you a photo of your baby.  (feeling like a surrogate mom here), but that is not an option on PM's.  No Advanced button.  So here are a couple pics of Mom and Baby.

Obviously they need repotting, but I'll do that when they go dormant.  Would like to give your baby a chance to get a little bigger!  It's warm here through October, then the leaves turn yellow.  Mine will go in-ground wherever we land, and your baby will come to you all rooted and dormant.

People like Suzi make this forum great .
This is a community . We help each other out with advice and plants because we all have the same passion towards this wonderful plant .
If you stick around long enough you will realize there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars for a single plant . Someone will eventually either give you cuttings or trade or charge a REASONABLE price .
Help others and you will recieve it back many times over .
Now a seller on eBay has no control how rediculous the bids get , so it's not their fault , but people on the forum should advise each other when it's overpriced .
It's not a real supply / demand issue , it's an auction to the most motivated.

John

Suzi,

I think you can copy and paste the picture. Not too sure though.

I think if you want to send a photo to someone here, it's better to use their email address. Unless it's blocked. :)

As to the original subject, the ebay auction for RdB... it certainly was entertaining to watch. In the end it looks as if everybody has won. :)

Thank you everyone for your compassion and sincerity. Not only my gratitude for this forum has been more than just participation and research but finding "genuine" individuals who care just as much as you would do for a friend. I appreciate all of you.. I love you guys. Thank you for being you.
