Georgia fig hunt

Our friend the writer and fig lover Alstair went bike riding in the Turkey and crossed over to Georgia last September and met with Malli from ucdavis. Malli was collecting different fruit trees including more varieties of figs. These figs are very interesting. The good thing is we will have these varieties available for us in about four years.

that squatty little black fig looks amazing.  i'd eat that in a heartbeat.  the others look good, too, but ... man.

I see a black madeira, a yellow neches, a celeste a stella, and others. Theyre just the Georgian cousins.

When we were riding our bikes, we saw a turkey here in Georgia, but that's not nearly as exciting as this story my friend!  ;-)

These look amazing Bass.

Special thanks to you, Alstair, and everyone who helps make these unique figs available to growers in the U.S.

Very best wishes.

Bass,

Excellent article and thanks for posting it.    Alastair Bland has written some very good articles about figs, his discoveries and adventures.       Some additional articles are here http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=3593139&highlight=ingevald+bland (Some of the links have changed but doing a search may locate them again)
