My fiancee is Georgian and I am really interested in finding a fig tree from her homeland. I read from an article that trees/cuttings have been collected before in the country as per http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/the-great-georgian-fruit-hunt-68708316/ . I reached out to UC Davis Wokfskill, but they don't currently have anything. One professor is reaching out to Malli from this article, but doesn't have high hopes. Across all the people in this forum, does anyone possess or know someone who has a Georgian fig tree? On the varieties page here there is a Georgian White/Violet/Black, but none are available. Per the article's photo, the one she remembers looked like the cut-off one on the extreme bottom-right. (Purple bottom transitioning to light yellowish green).Perhaps ones from Armenia/NE Turkey/Azerbaijan would be very similar. I would appreciate any help in the matter!
I have heard figs in southern Albania, near Greece are very good and pretty rare.A friend, neighbor, co-worker, and the person who cuts my three hairs are from Albania and say they are exceptional.I am working on these, but have nothing in the loop yet.I am very interested in any Albanian fig if you come across any. Purchase or trade, I have many great figs.Mike
Havnt been lucky to grow georgian figs yet. I think alot would be needing the wasp too..I know a Azerbaijani fig called Sarah-Absheron, Enjoy
Purple Abkhazia (Sukhumi purple)
Do you know where to get the abhaz violet?
Vladis is the expert of figs from this region.. He sent me that clip.. Lots of figs in one picking ah..
"Абхазский фиолетовый" растет в моем саду, в Туапсе. Растет другой сорт, который я назвал условно "Грузия -1".
That was for cuttings from a United States origin.
Elin please please PLEASE tell me that the fig you posted needs the wasp and would be useless in Florida...I have a special fondness for light figs and that yellow fig is just ... absolutely beautiful. Wondering if it tastes as good as it looks....James
I agree, James... that yellow fig looks like a real winner... If it is a common fig, it would be a must have...
The beautiful Sarah Absheron is common type.. A must have variety.
Hi . First of all , I have the Fig plant from Georgia . Secondly, there are 1000s varieties in the world and many of them are traveling through the countries with the Immigrants. Most of them have different names but they are the same 'basic '' varieties. And they all are sweet !!!

Bert can you update this topic if you get any fruit? I know that might take a year or more though.
Of course. I am curious how the further development is. Also in the frost hardness I set great expectations.
