Ghosh (Kala Heera) & Desert King

I started to think they were the same fig, but now that I got to eat them at the same time, I think they may be slightly different. If you were to have a smaller collection, I wouldn't have both. They were both pretty good, but my family liked the Desert King better today.

The fig to the left of the coin is Ghosh & the ones to the right are Desert King.

If there is anybody who wants one and wants to drive to my house in western Pa. (Lawrence Co)
I'd gladly give you a Ghosh or Desert King. I'm only keeping one of each.

Art,

I don't think they are the same. Just my opinion.

Mine is just starting to ripen. I don't have a King but have seen it in a couple of places. Can you feel texture on the skin on both?
Doesn't the King have a smooth and even surface where as the Ghosh has a somewhat a rippled skin?

What is your opinion?

Rafed,

You could be right. I will have to check that out on the next batch. There are still a bunch to pick.
If you don't mind, will you post pictures of your Ghosh when it ripens.

I have a question to add to Rafed's. I also have both (started this year).
Which is more productive?
Is Kala Heera a variety that produces 2 crops?

They seem to be equally productive. Both are good growers and loaded with breba.
I'm pretty sure that I read that Kala Heera is a breba only. I will find out this year.

Art,

If I'm home I will. "IF" LOL
Going on a mini vaca with the family tomorrow so I don't know how quick it will ripen.

Ruuting,

We will findout if the Ghosh is a two crop fig this season hopefully.
Between me and Art and few other friends the odds are great in getting this info this season.

Rafed, I'll need your address, I'll make sure to sample any figs that ripen on your property while you're on vacation.
I will have a full report for you when you come back :)

I had both and the leaves and the figs were the same. JMO

Hello Art,

Almost 700 miles round trip!

It was definitely a great day. Meeting you and your family.

Your wife and you were very nice hosts. I enjoyed our conversations and learned a lot about the figs

The trees are just gorgeous.

A BIG THANK YOU for your generosity.

Friends who grew both mentioned they are the SAME. Based on such info, my Ghosh went to another
home some time back.

Hey Shailesh,

It was my pleasure. If only you had a bigger vehicle, you would have been welcome to more.

My wife and I hope that you and Peggy can make the trip again.

Seriously, I may take you up on that invite.
We had a great time. Meeting you and the family was worth the drive.
