Hey Maruis, Whats the story behind this fig? I seem to remember you said it was purchased in Germany but I wonder if you could fill in the story a little better. Thanks,
Marius, the first picture reminds me of a Brown Turkey.
So does the last one with the hollow center. But I love the color of the first picture.
This fig is definitely not a Brown Turkey. It's a dark(black) fig and bigger in size than Brown Turkey. The story of this fig is pretty short. Was purchased in Germany by my brother in law(who lives over there),in 2009,near Stuttgart, having the label:" Grosse schwartze feige"-Giant black fig.I added the "german" word and voila...Giant Black German Fig.
Have any of the growers of this variety learned how to get it to be at its optimum? Does it need heat, long summers....does it split/sour in North-East?Just curious....I never saw or heard of this fig until today.Frank
Looks like there was just one posted on E-bay.
If anyone is growing this variety, this season, please post some photos of tree, leaves, and figs, as they are at this point. What is your opinion of this variety? I need the information. Thanks,Frank

I have it in ground and tips were pinched. They are still small. Leaves look very much like BT. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.
Thanks guys for the links and for some new, updated photos. Hoping for some opinions about this fig variety. I will be growing this fig for the first time, and would love to know how I can grow this fig to reach its full potential for flavor. I guess I will learn in due time. Thanks for the information.Frank
So....back again. Any NEW updated photos and information re: figs, taste best growing techniques? I have this variety, and so far, only gigantic leaves. Anything....anybody?Thanks,Frank
Frank, this is my inground Giant Black German. As you can see, is a heavy producer despite the fact that i prune it a lot in spring for cuttings. Now start swelling his figs.I will post some more pictures in a week. Marius
Marius......Thanks for the updated photos. Looks like a real producer of large figs. Very interested in your opinions about the taste. I will wait for your future critique, and additional photos. Thanks,Frank
