Giant Celeste

Can the fig gurus please let me know if this is the LSU Giant Celeste (LSU Tiger)? These figs had sweet, little jammy, figgy flavor.  These figs were very special because as you were eating into the pulps, the white juice vesicles popped and released sweet juices into your mouth just like the sacs in an orange. These white vesicles in these figs are little chewy. These figs are very good. Thank you.

I'm not very good at leaf ID, but this does look like my LSU Tiger, fruits also.

Meghan and Barry: Thank you. I thought the leaves on LSU Tiger are five to seven distinct lobes. This tree has a lot of single lobed leaves.

Meghan and Barry: How is the taste in LSU Tiger? Please let me know. Thank you.

Mine was from a first year tree.  But the fruit is very nice and sweet, thin skin.  It's been a while since I had it, but it really was a good fig.  I haven't seen any 5 lobe leaves on my tree.  Most are single or three lobe.  They look just like what you have pictured.

Megan: Thank you. So, the pictured tree is 100% LSU Tiger. This tree is 25 years old.

Do all LSU Tiger's immature figs have pink eyes? Thank you.

Best,
Tam

I don't know if they all have pink eyes.  But they aren't the only ones that do.  I only have a few varieties, some of which have not produced fruit yet.

Tam, I'm sure that on that tree they all will go through the color change as part of the ripening process.  I have a tree that the eyes are turning yellow with a pink center.  Been waiting for them to ripen for months!

Tam, Really enjoy your posts! Your pics are great with a new variety every day since Ive joined! Keep them coming!!!

blueboy1977: Thank you. I am trying my best to post the most beautiful photos that I can.

Those leaves look like my LSU tiger also but on mine the eyes are not pink on the immature figs. My tree is still young and i don't think that would make the difference but it may.

Ryan: Thank you. Most immature figs have pink eyes and they remain pink until they are fully ripe too.

Tam, do the eyes start off green and then turn color at some point during ripening?  Or are the red to begin with?

Meghan: I did not attention to the eyes start off green or not; however, I have noticed that the small immature figs have light pink eyes and their eyes are turning to pinkish red as maturity. Please look closely at the eye photo above. Thank you.
