Giant Fig Japanese on Youtube

Saw this posted on Facebook, it looks like a Celeste...???  What do other members think..???

Most probably not Celest.
It is most probably the Japanese version of "Ma Si Yi"  (forgot the name and spelling...edit: ok Matsui Dauphine). Just grew bigger than its normal sze

Holy crap! That's one big fig!

I don't have a clue of the variety but my guess is it's a breba fig. What ever it is, it's one helluva big fig!

Yes, Ottawan is correct. It's Matsui Dauphine. "Ma Si Yi" is the Chinese pronunciation.

she is tiny to compare size of the fruit...she needed to use a quarter or a ruler...and my fig tree makes figs as big as those! And bet you mine is better...she did not do the humm hummm that is great fig...

That lady should learn how to eat a fig ... It is not an apple . One should tare the fig in two and eat each half at a time, and not do/behave like she does... throwing her head inside the fruit...
And next time, if she could do that in front of the tree sothat we can have an idea of how big the tree is ... Or perhaps she bought the fruit ?
Here I can buy peaches of the size of a tennis or baseball ball ... I don't even want to know what they are fed to be at that size ...

Hope I don't have nightmares with her voice when I finally get to bed!!!

If you pause the video at 1:30, it looks like the fig is at least 50% white pulp and only a small pedicel chamber in the center. I prefer a fig with thin skin/pulp and mostly drupelets. Are big figs generally bigger because of thicker pulp? If so, I think I would prefer smaller ones. I've eaten thousands of figs over my life, but all from one tree. I usually at just the drupelets and discarded the rest. So, most of this fig would have been a waste for me.

By the way, I don't mean to sound pretentious throwing around terms like pedicel and drupelet. I didn't have the vocabulary to describe the parts of the fig I was referring to, so I had to look them up here: http://figs4fun.com/Links/FigLink129.pdf

Paul, I agree.  Usually the larger figs do have a thicker white pulp section in my experience.  My largest Panache fig last year did have a thicker white section than most of the fruits later in the season.  Same for Sequoia.  On the other hand, my 184-15 were consistently large and never had much of a white section.

I had a long Yellow and a black weeping that were just about that size.
