Giant Seed Grown Tree

This is the seed grown tree, birthed in 1995 in NJ, brought to Florida planted once and then moved to it's present location. Compared to the other fig tress planted at the same time, this one shot up and out as if on steroids.

The shiny objects on the tree are air layerings.

Here are some red ants I stepped on while taking pictures of the tree.

This is what came out of my mouth when the ants started biting my legs.

Here is a picture of the trunk with a cinder block for perspective.

Here is a giant asian pear that distracted me while taking pictures. It was sweet and juicy.  "Squirrel!!"

This is what the leaves and fruits look like.

Humorous and thanks!!

Seedling from ???

Looks great Frank! Man that Asian Pear looks tasty! I'm curious about the growing from seed part. I've seen those RARE ANATOLIAN fig tree seeds on ebay and was curious how that would work out. I was under the impression that you would need pollination for seed planted figs. I guess that's a wrong assumption?

Now that's a respectable fig tree! Please tell us a little more about how this seedling came about.

Ahh, the memories of fire ants. Those adorable little pains in the %@#&$! (have no idea why this formed a link). I sure don't miss those little wonders of creation! Every time I got stung by them it made me wonder why they were ever created!!

Anyway, which variety of Asian Pear is that? I grafted 4 varieties of those this spring (as some may have already seen me post about).

I wish I could give you guys a more detailed history of the tree's origins but 1995 is a long time ago. I was young and foolish then,  just starting with the whole fig thing, experimenting with seeds, grafting etc. I guess the seeds must have come from a celeste, judging from the results, although this particular tree only started to have ripe figs a few years ago. Before that, they would drop or shrivel up.

Regarding the asian pear...the tag dropped off earlier this year and and in so doing, dropped out of my memory as well. sorry.

Frank.
