"Giovanni: The man behind the figs"

http://www.messyandpicky.com/index.php/2009/09/28/giovanni-the-man-behind-the-figs/

Cute article about figs and the old Italian who grows them. From a blog called:

Messy and Picky

Eating our way through Philadelphia

That's awesome what a lucky man.

Very nice to read these mini-biographies, and to see large, healthy fig trees giving their sweet bounty, to the people who love, nurture, and protect them.  This is a story that has been repeated thousands, and thousands of times, in The Bronx, Brooklyn, and in any area where Italians, Greeks, etc. have settled.  A true gift from the Old World cultures, to the New World.

Enjoy Giovanni...for many years to come!

Thanks for the link. I knew the article was about a year old, but back then I hadn't yet gone bonkers about figs. :)

Lol, thanks. :)

Very nice article. Interesting that I am about to order a Paradiso from Joe Morle in Roslindale Ma.

If I'm not mistaken, Joe's Paradiso is different than one in the article.

I got a cutting of a "Giovanni" Paradiso this spring that is growing nicely thanks to a figgy friend and member. I hope it's the same fig as his, looks like it's a real winner. I also have a Paradiso from Herman which has produced some nice tastings fig. Although my season was a bust because of all the rain we had, Herman's Paradiso did better than most as I got to taste a few.
"gene"

i've been looking at "Giovanni" Paradiso for awhile. it looks very similar to Paradiso Gene. but can't really tell. does any one know where i might be able to get my hand on Giovanni's Paradiso for comparison? here is Paradiso Gene from my back yard deck.

Pete, not nice of you to torture me with your teasing.. good thing I am not pregnant!

grasa,

you and me both. i can't wait till the summer. this fig improved over one year 10 folds. i'm hoping that it will improve more this year. here is the link on rest of the fix.
