GM figs - tell us about them, please.

GM 1,2 ... 108

George will you tell us about the fruit and rain tolerance of these? GM 5 is famous but I still don't know about rain and cold tolerance. What about the others?

Thanks.

From an email exchange with George:

GM#8 is white fig of the San Pedro type. It is probably best suited for the PNW - like the Desert King.

Thanks Bob,
what about GM-12
Mark

I have Maltese Raven GM100, and GM201 (currently rooting)

Maltese Raven is a little sensitive to cold, but it sure does love heat... Next year I maybe able to try the fruits. GM201- I was stupid, I had a live plant, so I decided to plant it outside in the ground, I buried it in mulch- thats it. I HIGHLY doubt it is alive. I will find out in spring.

Your just gonna have to wait for Gorgi to chime in.... He's probably busy talking to his figs- lol

Jennifer

Maltese Beauty, all I can say is what it is doing from november till now, it takes forever to root then it grows like a weed, big leaves, it looks like it wants to be productive because at every node it's trying to push out a fig.  That is just a cutting from november though.

George, you should write a book on the figs of Malta!

Maybe a public data-base and/or a blog...
Do I have enough time or care for all that effort(s)?

It's your legacy!  :)     How about just the ones you think are most memorable?

@ Jennifer. Don't be too hasty to write that tree off. Even if it happens to look dead back to the soil line, it could still come back from a node just below the soil line. Figs are hardy and I've been surprised a few times myself.

Like Alan said, if you covered it with enough mulch, it may have plenty of material alive - even well above the soil line. I've been covering many of my potted figs in mulch for a couple of years now. I've had only a couple of losses and they weren't related to the cold.

Just wait a month or so into warm weather before giving up on yours ;) .

Remember, when I was trying to revive 201? The length I went through to revive 201 still amazes me. Digging through my trash not once BUT twice. I had putrid smelly hands for a week, if (in ground) GM201 is alive, I will be EXTREMELY SHOCKED. We had frigid temps of -3°F, freeze and a lot of snow...

I will try to be positive, but I also have my doubts. GM100 (Maltese Raven) is doing great! She responds really well to pinching. I have a new branch forming.
