GM#100 "Maltese Raven" (update: GM#201 dead- rotting pic)

What a bummer. I hate that feeling, especially after the initial elation of everything going well. Sucks.

Yesterday, I just dubbed my GM#100 as "Maltese Raven", b/c:

(a) Its 'jet-black' skin color.
(b) The mother tree is located in an area known as (loosely translated) Raven (or Crow?).
(c) The fig is quite unique.
.....
(x) Baltimore (mischievous) Ravens were currently winning the Super Bowl XLVII ...
....
Go, Ravens, go ... [and they actually did win!]
.....

Note:
Other than its skin color, I think that there is nothing else very spectacular -
but  I hope that it performs well here.

Jennifer...the bane of my life has been overwatering...but I'm finally starting to learn what "slightly moist" means...have left a path of death and destruction in my wake...sometimes I'm so        "stupid,stupid,stupid...."

I am one proud mama. Maltese Raven is about 2ft tall. Vigorous gal. And..... Very pretty- the name matches too. (Still recovering from the loss my dear friend)

Psst. Thank you.

Jennifer

Does anybody else have Maltese Raven? It's late, but I noticed she is really getting thirsty! Growing big and tall, I pinched the top hoping to get more branching. I will get more photos in the morning

Maybe some day I'll have one of those Maltese varieties, but for now I'll just have to drool on everyone else's pictures and cheer for your rooting success!  She sure does sound vigorous.  Nice job!

There is no mistaking that putrid smell of a rotted fig cutting, blah. Jenn, let them be a little thirsty, it's much safer.

I was told by the manager of the garden center I shop in that most plant die from over watering then under watering.  Last spring/summer I killed all of the cuttings from to much water!  This time around I haven't lost one yet.  The cutting I did the emergency root pruning on I believe was due to lack of water.  I noticed the leaves don't droop the way I was expecting,  I didn't water for a few weeks so i think that was the case.  It is still alive and I am keeping an eye on it.  I have about 24 in cups, 14 or so in moss and more in the fridge.

JoAnn, That sounds good what you are doing. Another thing to consider, as has been discussed many times is the soil mix you use. Many use 50/50 blend of commercial soil and perlite. I have used that successfully, but recently I have been using Pro Mix HP. The HP stands for high porosity, and I have found that I do not need to add perlite or anything to this mix as it is designed to allow aeration and it works great. Jenn, if you can locate this produc t I recommend it highly.
