Gnats

I've been using Miracle Gro Moisture control soil to root my figs, and am starting to see lots of gnats in the potted plants.  I put a layer of coco coir on top to see if it helps.

What is everyone's recommendation to control gnats?  I've heard some suggestions for Gnatrol WDG, spinosad sprays, etc.  Not sure what's the best way.

I did a SEARCH and found an assortment of things to try: nematodes, yellow sticky tape, white vinegar cups,
carnivorous plants, perhaps watering from the bottom using Gnatcontrol, etc.  All of these are very
different from one another; all you need to do is find ONE that works for you.

That miracle soil is crap. It's notorious for having gnat larvae I wish you did a forum search before purchasing. If you are rooting indoors use cocoa coir and you won't have to worry about them. Now, I would get gnatrol and yellow sticky cards. Keep your soil dry on top by bottom watering. Good luck

I was using an old bag of Miracle Gro potting mix that my dad bought long ago. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but my plants got infested with gnats. It was frustrating for awhile, using yellow stickies and Gnatrol. They only reduced the number of gnats, but just could not get rid of all of them. Then I saw a YouTube video of a guy using Neem cake with great success. I got some Neem cake myself in August last year, and it obliterated the gnats and I haven't seen any of them since. Unlike in the video, I did not top dress my soil with the product.

The video referenced:

Try covering the top layer of your soil completely with sand or better yet a non toxic product called "gnatnix"both sand and gnatnix stop the gnats from entering your soil and doesn't let the ones in the soil (babies) get out witch is supposed to end life cycle, good luck
