Going Italian

Thinking about going with my heritage, (Italian) for all of my trees. Is there a best source for obtaining them? I am also wanting the (unknown) varieties. It will be like having my own surprise party when they produce fruit since I wont know what to expect. Also it would be nice to preserve them for others in the future. I currently have some unknown Avocado trees I am growing out, scions were obtained through tropical fruit forums.
Thanks

Plenty of Italian types out there, among which are plenty of Unknowns from Brooklyn, an extensive list by designation as Italian #x, many from Belleclare, Several Dominics, Marios, et alia. Take a look at the varieties pages, start researching, then perhaps look for specific types.

Happy hunting!

Thank you. I will, I noticed Belleclare Nursery was closed. Did some other nursery take over? Is their breeding stock of figs gone or did someone else take them to keep them going? It always makes me sad to think rare varieties of any type of plant may be lost. Thank you again for your help.
Enjoy your day!

I've heard great things about this nursery, but have never purchased these trees myself (would love to at some point). http://www.figtrees.net - Italian and Greek figs

Belleclare varieties are traded among collectors. Pete Cundari on Staten Island has many of their best varieties and occasionally sells on ebay or you can always see him at the Staten Island fig fest. Another former member, Jack Cohen, has a large collection of Belleclare original trees but he does not and will not trade, or as far as I know, sell.

Check out the new fig listings at Durio Nursery/LA.  Many Italian figs. Most figs will/should do well in Texas, as long as they don't freeze.

Happy hunting.

I will also attest to http://www.figtrees.net . He is a nice Italian man outside Boston, whom I had the chance to speak with in person.  He has some great varieties including the black and white triana, votata, and his version of paradiso and others.

I can relate to your search for Italian figs, as my Italian roots sparked my interest in figs as well.  Happy Growing.

Thank you all for your help. I will call Durio Nursery tomorrow and see what they have. Wifey might want to go on a road trip to the casinos and a little stop won't hurt, (much). Ha,ha,ha just joking she's a keeper, (puts up with my plant obsession):) I will also call figtrees.net to check their availability.
P.S. If anyone has cuttings they would like to sell please let me know.
Thanks everyone.

Calling Durio will be a waste of your time and his. Read this post and send him an email:

Wish List, LSU Scotts yellow, col de dama negra/blanc, lebanese any type.

Well I hope that they might have a younger generation ready to take up the reigns and start anew someday:)
