Golden Atreano matches my green fig

Ok, the jury is out!  And the verdick is my unknown figs is called a Golden Atreano.  For months, I have be searching the forums and web trying to match this fig.  According to a thread on the Garden Web fig forum, my unknown green figs are called Golden Atreano!  The leaf patterns are the same based on  Jame aka bjs496 from Houston Texas.  His discription of the fig is exactly like my 2 unknowns.  Look at his leaf pattern and look at mine.  They match!  But different from my big Atreano fig tree.  I hope I don't get in trouble for this .... here is the Link to the source:

I am so glad I now know the name of my 2 figs!  Hurray!!!  Jon, your varieties list this fig as Atreano Gold.  I recommend a separate picture and narrative for this fig because the leaf patterns and fig color are not the same. Cheers!

Congrats Dennis, its a wonderfull feeling to finally be able to solve the naming puzzle of mislabeled or unkown figs. I have had quite a few sleepless nights trying to figure it out myself on some mislabeled figs I have. That fig looks delicious by the way.

Yeap!  I am so happy Nelson!  In that first picture, the figs look a little green because I picked it too soon!  But here is a picture of it when it is Gold color on the tree!  I bought these 2 trees 2 years ago from Lowes or HD.  I think it was Lowes.  They grow fast and I got one limb that I air layered that took.  It is very very sweet and juicy.

Dennis, those are some beautiful figs---glad you got it identified.

Dennis, there are at least 2 strains of Atreano that I know of.  One is the Rolling river nursery type with an amber interior that a lot of people on the forums rave about.  The other is a variant from Belleclare nursery that has a red interior.  One being sold at a NY nursery called Zainos is this second type.  They call it golden atreano, but BC called it Atreano.  In my opinion this second one has too mild a flavor for me but I keep one around just because it gives me lots of large figs.

Dennis, What a beautiful fig tree ,
I love all the limbs on it...
I would love to buy some cuttings from
you of that tree when or if you cut it.
 Debbie

Hello Debbie I've already cut it once and I probably won't cut it again until next year.  When I do, I'll contact you via email.  I was going to place these 2 trees in the ground but I changed my mind.  When they go dormant, I'm going to repot them using a good mix and this time use a larger pot!  Next Fall I will plant them in the ground.

I feel really bad because for an entire year I totally neglected these 2 trees.  I just fed them water for one year thinking they were Brown Turkey.  Well that year I did repot the 2 trees but they did not grow that much at all until the next year (this year).  What happened?

Well, I left both trees outside uncovered, in the rain in the snow and in the ice.  When Spring came, they looked dead so I placed them on my cull pile for a few days along with 3 other trees that also came back to life after being out all winter unprotected. These 2 Golden Atreano fig trees would probably have doubled in size.  How do I know this?  Well, I left the 2 Golden Atreanos in 5 gallon pots and 1 Peter's Honey and 1 Italian Honey both in huge 30 gallon container out all winter unprotected.  Only Peter's Honey and Italian Honey completely died to ground but came back in May and grew 7 feet!  And they are much older than my Golden Atreanos by 2 years.  So, my theory is if I had placed my 2 Golden Atreanos in large container, they would have reached that size too.

I wasn't sure if they were dead, I placed them in my greenhouse for 30 days and gave them a liquid feed.  As you can see, they came back!  Now, I am glad I kept the trees.  I'm going to triple label these trees and put the proper name on them, Golden Atreano.  CHeers,
