Golden Celeste

Tuesday:

Today, still not there despite 97 degrees...

But it's getting softer!

Today

Probably should have waited 2 more days but it was very soft.  This is another 6 month old plant, a gift from a generous fellow member.  Had a sweet, figgy taste with a hint of pear.  Very refreshing.  My first amber pulped green fig.  Can't wait for more!!

I started some cuttings of this very recently too. Glad to see it's so pretty, and that the taste is good.

Bob, How do these compare with the LSU Gold Celeste?

Yours does not appear to dry as with some of the celeste varieties.

This is all I have, it was labeled golden celeste.  I would have guessed it's the same but I don't know.

LSU Gold is a different cultivar than Golden Celeste. LSU Gold produces larger figs with a more circular shape and virtually no neck. Golden Celeste also goes by the name Champagne. As far as I know Golden Celeste and Champagne are both the same variety, but there may have been some discussion, as there was with ORourke, of it being different. It seems there is a lot of confusion surrounding many of the LSU figs. I grow both LSU Gold and Golden Celeste and like them both for taste, but find LSU Gold does better in pot culture for me.

Better meaning more figs, better tasting figs, or what?  Does this match with your Golden Celeste?

Reminder:
There two(2) different "Golden Celeste" figs out there
(a) from LSU; pear shaped with yellow skin, (aka Champagne)
(b) from UCD: round shaped with brown/purple skin

great posts with great info
thx all
and thx for pics Bob

Bob,

That looks like my Golden Celeste. By better I mean that LSU Gold is more productive in pot culture, both taste good to me

I hadn't realized there were two versions of GC. (thanks)

This is what the Golden Celeste from UCDavis looks like. I think it's the one I've just rooted:

This is the Golden Celeste that I started from a cutting from UC Davis.  I have another green fig marked UC Davis also so I'm not sure how that happened?
