good fig jam/ preserves?

the closest i've come to trying a fresh fig was some dried ones i had shipped from cal.  very very good.
the indoor brebas on my chicago didn't taste like much, but when i got my tree in janurary it was a tiny twig.

well, i'll have my own figs in 1000 years. i can't wait. i've heard of fig jam and i see many brands on amazon.

i'm hoping for something better than fig newton jam. has anyone tasted a commercial jam that's fun? or, better, does anyone here make and sell jam thru the mail?

please lemme know.

bass at trees of joy sold some preserves last yr. not sure if he will make some this yr.

i don't have enough figs to make jam/preserve out of them. they are all eaten fresh :)

thanks for the tip pete. i'd much rather but from a forum member than some icky big company.

susie.

I second the recommendation for Bass's jam.  If you can't get that, there's a commercial brand called Koslowski Farms that makes Fig + Muscat Wine preserves (combination), that's pretty good.  I've tried 20 or 25 brands of commercial fig jam/preserves, and that was among the best of the commercial ones I've had.   But Bass's is better still (Figs + Walnuts).

I don't have any fig preserves for sale right now but I'm hoping by the middle of August to have at least 60 pints put up.   It is a very old recipe that my grandmother used and the preserves are delicious.  I know someone is bound to ask what type of figs are used so I will go ahead and answer that here.  I don't know.  Although I grew up picking and eating figs, I am new to "figging" as a hobby.   We had an enormous fig tree when I was growing up and we always had fresh figs as well as preserves, but I never even knew there was more than 1 type of fig until last year.....lol.  When the figs I use ripen this year, I will get pictures of the figs and the leaves so maybe someone here on the forum can tell us all what type they are.  I can tell you this much; last year I used figs that were somewhat small, I'd say most were about 1/2 the size of a golf ball, and they were brownish in color, with I guess what you would call a medium pinkish/red inside.  I had some large green figs (when they were ripe) last year but they weren't as sweet as the small brownish ones.  If I can, I will try to get pics of those too so someone can help identify the type there are as well.  So, back to the original question....I hope to have fig preserves for sale in about a month, if you, or anyone else is interested, just message me.
