Just too dam hot and humid but I re-potted another one of my potted fig trees. This is the fourth one to date. You can see the tools I used in the photo. That reciprocating saw is a god sent. Cut off about 3 and 1/2 inches from the bottom the using the saw then I cut about one quarter of the root mass from around the tree. Then I used the claw end of the hammer to pull the remaining roots going around in a circle loose and added the correct amount of soil and placed it in the tub. As I said or wrote should be good for another 3 years.LouA lot more to go.

Hard work, but it pays off. Is it better to repot now than in the spring? How long does it take the tree to recover? Any particular aftercare? Do you notice any fewer figs in the next growing season?
I read somewhere that the best time to repot is when trees are dormant.
Hi musillid,I see that next season they tend to produce a little less fruit that's why I go easy o the root removal. I did not take the time to make up my special mix. Just to lazy I guess. But they should grow back nicely next season. Don't vary my care by any means at all.Lou
Lou, have you used those tubs from Kmart before? Do they last? I looked at those, and compared to the nice 17 gallon Tubs at Tractor Supply, they are half the price... Anyway, that tree looks gorgeous! That thing's gonna explode next spring.
Hi Lou ,I like that type of saw for root work as well cuts thru them like butter - Harbor freight was the source and wood pruning blades that are 9 inches can also be bought there in a 5 pack for 6.99 much less than Home D.
Ruuting , Those tubs usually last four years. I wish they where just a little bigger and have used them before.. vitalucky, Dormant is the best time but with 34 trees to do and my age factor -- I'll take my chances As of this evening I've done 5 all together now but the others are in 5 gallon pots. It's not to bad dealing with those. A lot of my trees in those 5 gallon buckets are just starting to come in so I won't mess with them until they are picked
