Good News / Bad News

Good news was at least I got to take documentation pix of red figgy babies on my Zaino Purple/Red.

Bad news is this morning they are all GONE !!

Cardinals have been all through the trees of late , but I never dreamed they would take the tiny red figs ! They weren't on the stone

patio anywhere , were there yesterday, so I'm guessing they took them . I left them all my raspberries and they had to take those figs too.

I was really anxious to try them and was thrilled to see them . Grrrr.  I didn't think I had to cover them while they were so young.

Cardinals seem to like unripe green grapes too.  I was wondering what happened to strings of green concord grapes and then I saw them going at the other variety I have.

It's just maddening !! They are our biggest competitor here for any fruit. I don't mind sharing some , but not all!

If any other figs on that tree come up now I will have to cover them - I'm hoping I do get a few more .

My Mission , S. Corleone. & Negronnes are loaded with figs this year. Hoping I'm safe with the Kadota's , Lattarulla's and Atreano's.

my Kathleen's Black does that. majority of the new figs coming out are green. however, there are few that turns deep purple/red.. they will hang on there for few weeks and will drop. ones that hangs in there will turn hard as rock... but only few will do that. hope the rest of the figs will provide better result for you!

You really have to fight for what is yours!  Do the birds water your trees?  Do you pay for the water?  YOURS!  NOT theirs!!

Sure, they have to eat, but not YOUR figs!

I just took a long trek down our hill to pick about 5 bushels of clean, ripe apples.  Anna is the variety!  I guess the racoons haven't figured it out.

I will shroud my figs with netting or whatever, because WE PAY for the water and fertilizer.  They (critters) don't even contribute at all!  The figs are ours!

Your non bleeding heart buddy,

Suzi

Suzi, I'm with you , not my figs !! I'm looking for netting for all my trees now . I'll post if I find anything good.

Thanks Pete . I looked all over and there were none on the stone patio and the spot where they were is actually light  green , as if it were picked right off.

Probably thought they were nice fat ripe holly berries.

Steve , I'm sure they did !

Daniel , it might be the case .We seem to have an over abundance of cardinals though.  I do plan on netting my trees , mostly for the fact that we want to eat them !
