Good place for plastic pots

I like it when people share online resources for the stuff we all use at pretty cheap prices, especially when it's a good, reputable seller that's lesser-known.

I've possibly mentioned this place before, but since I just placed another order and it went flawlessly and shipped fast, especially for folks down in the southeastern USA, I thought I'd share again in its own thread.

I know some folks are all about going to the nursery and asking for used pots, but with the cost of gas, I can't afford to drive around looking for them.  So I broke down and ordered another round of pots from PlasticFlowerPots.net ( http://plasticflowerpots.net/ )

I bought (50) 3gal and (25) true 1gal pots for $48.  Shipping is is a little rough ($18), but the 3gal pots are pretty big, so it sort of makes sense.  Even with the shipping, I still walked away paying less than 89ยข per pot (all 75 pots combined, shipped).  They promptly arrived about 72 hours after I placed the order.

The pots they sell are the ones anyone that's purchased plants from a nursery wil recognize - solid black, slightly flimsy, several drain holes in the bottom (4 around the sides, one at bottom-center), and they never seem to break down.  And I mean ... they just don't crack, it's kinda scary.

I try and keep a few dozen on-hand at all times "just in case".

This place sells on eBay also, which is how I originally found them.

I bought from them after shopping around for awhile.

I bought 100-1 and 50-3 and everything plus shipping was under $100.

That looks like a good source at least for my other gardening needs, ie. seed starting.
I found 4-1g, 10-3g, and 2-5g on the side of the street the other day, saved me the hassle of finding some pots.

I intially found them looking for seed starting flats and trays.  When I did, I picked up 50-1gal pots from them on the first order along with a bunch of seed trays and stuff for less than $30 if memory serves correctly.

They've been good to me so far, I've recommended them locally.  Pots are few and far between.  I usually re-up on 1gal around this time of year when my wife goes to the nursery with our friend next door to pick up perrenials - usually results in 10-20 pots for free.  Unfortunately, over 1/4 of my trees (15-20) are getting to be 2'-3' tall and will be overdue for a up-potting soon.

If you have an Ag Supply laced near by, check there.

Online, B and T Growers but shipping comes close to doubling the price (for me in paradise)

There are some deals on Ebay, some times, such as this.

I'm not sure if anyone has tried them, I haven't but the plastic grow bags, how well do these work?  They seem fairly cheap and if they work well may be a good option.  Otherwise I have found pots on roads after they plant and leave them there for weeks, or asking nurseries in grocery stores if I can have left over pots, they seem to just hand them over.

@Cathy, 1gal is sufficient for 1yrs growth.  Ultimately, you want to leave them in 1gal pots till rootbound.  I'm up-potting to 3gal on my year old trees that both have good roots and at least 24" tall.

Also, be sure to compare shipping costs for your locale.  Shipping is the factor that seems to tip the scales in your favor or against it.

Hi Jon having nice weather in Paradise ?
that ebay link you mention - here is there store website that offers same 6.5 trade gallon the pot
http://growerssolution.com/page/GS/CTGY/casepots
its the same price 31 cents in bulk quantity on website as ebay .

I recognized the ebay listing as i have there actual website stored on hardrive as i ordered last season there expandable 50mm peat pots for experimenting with scion.

Also
Actual 3 and 1 gallon pots not trade size
I tested order and similar to Jasons eh a few bucks cheaper though for 50 (3 gallon) and 25 (1 gallon )  came to 45.00 for pots and 17.51 ground shipping.
Comes out to 83 cents each. Course shipping depends on where you live.
They are located in Tenn.

Just another option.

Jason, Martin, you guys have provided some excellent sources.  Thank you.  Thirty-five cents per pot is hard to beat!  It is time to order!  Thanks again, cheers

Only 8 to 10,000!

Blah, not interested. I need more in the 50,000 range!

one of the local area nurseries has a bin set out for people to return their plastic pots for recycling purposes. I asked and can have as many as I want. not sure how big the sizes were but last year I got many, one must be 30 gal, a couple 10 or so, and many 3 and one gallon pots.

Grant, be sure to thoroughly clean out your pots.  Spray them out really well to get the loose debris out, stack them in a bunch, and put the bunch into a 5gal bucket of 10:1 water/bleach solution for 10-20 minutes to sanitize them.  I prefer to spend a few cents on brand new pots to avoid the possibility of contamination.

Last thing you want is to get something infectious from a reused pot (you never know what was in them).

Alternately, I think you could probably get away with using vinegar, but that would get expensive.

Cathy,  you missed this Ebay Offering  Or maybe Dominiack wants to handle it by himself.

We pool out $ and Rafed picks them up, and delivers a portion to each fig-nazi as he cruises the country.

The bottom line is that there are many ways to get pots, new, used, etc. And everyone has different needs and different opportunities. I bought 200 15g pots from a nursery here for $2.50 each. He bought in truckload quantities, but with the housing depression, has no need of them for several years till the landscape/nursery business recovers (if it ever does). For the small quantity I wanted, my best option was more than $5 - so I jumped on this deal. A local nursery business (Pinery Christmas Tree Farms) went belly-up, and left behind were 3/4 of a million 2g pots that are not a popular size, but that I love to use. 10 cents each. Filled my truck several times.

Thanx to everyone who shared their ideas and experience.

Get The LI crew together.

Only 17 cents each or less, depending on how many.

I just walk next door from my office and pick up a few pots from the landscaper next door.  Big/little doesn't matter - I've known them for almost 30 years.  Just got some 10 and 15 gal from them the other day anticipating good growth from my new cuttings - LOL.  I'll carve a couple of pumpkins for there most every year.

Thanks for the link Jason, I have it book-marked
