Good tasting brebas

At last, a breba that is good to eat!!

White Adriatic from Cloud Mountain:

Tastes like a real fig, and a good one at that.

Jon if you would have posted good taster or bad i bet most would say bad because of the looks (not a fan of light figs) Just goes to show " ME " that a fig does not have to look good to taste good.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Martin,

I understand. All of the figs that I liked early on were dark, and I assumed that dark was good, and light was bad. But it turns out that there are a lot of very, very good tasting light colored or "white" figs. It is just that the most widely distributed ones that everyone is familiar with are not representative of all light figs.

I have always felt a nudging suspicion that Adriatic & White Adriatic are different variants. Just like Genoa & White Genoa. White Adriatic would be of special interest in my zone.  I was recently encouraged to acquire White Adriatic by a well known grower for its outstanding strawberry like taste but hesitated as I have variants that gives similar taste & flavour.  Jon's feedbacks on WA surely poke my interest especially I found my Battalagia Green having some wilting issues & probably will croak. Would be interesting to learn more about White Adriatic from  any collectors who have both variants or just White Adriatic.

The White Adriatic had a very heavy crop of brebas, even after fairly heavy pruning, and was only planted 1 year ago.

Below is one of a few breba figs from Alma (not 100% sure). I got the cutting last year from a friend's renting house.

So far this year, also got a few breba figs from Brown Turkey and Janice Seedless, both are 3 years old trees.

They are all sweet.

That doesn't look like Alma.

For some odd reason most of the heavy breba bearers I've known are light skinned figs. There are a few dark figs that have few brebas, but in my collection and from the trees I've seen most that bear breba figs are light colored.
Do you guys agree?

The above picture is for a breba fig, not a main crop fig.

I picked another breba fig from the not-sure Alma tree today for taking a picture. It should stay on the tree a few more days for better taste. Here is its picture.

If it is not Alma, can anyone identify that fig tree? For that fig tree:
1. It bears heavily;
2. The eye of its fig is sealed with a drop of thick resin;
3. It tends to sucker easily;
4. Its main crop figs are rounder and smaller.

Thanks!

Hello Jon,
How does the main crop of White Adriatic flavor compare to Adriatic?
Thanks Ed
