Harvey , don't know if that statement is an urban legend or not so can't confirm or deny . However bees are a very important part of our ecology and are responsible for polination of many crops ,1/3 is the number I keep hearing . That's a lot anyway you look at it . If the fig wasp disappears then forget all those Smyrna type figs . No Calimyrna crops .
California produces about 75% of the worlds almond crops and bees are trucked in from all over the US to pollinate them . There is nothing else growing Other than almonds so bees have nothing to eat when almonds are not in bloom so not any around .
Anyway the way I see it we are connected with nature in more ways than we understand . And it's not a good sign when we see such an important part of it struggling to survive . You may have a different perspective .
