Got Roots- How About Some Sun?

Okay, I've used the baggie method and have roots.  I moved these cuttings to clear cups with perlite mixture and now have small visible roots against the wall of the cup.  When do you guys and gals start giving the young trees some sun?  I know the cutting contains stored food to supply the new tree for a while but at what point does sunlight help more regarding food production that it hurts by dehydrating the rooted cutting?  Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hi Eric,

When you have lots of roots in the cup you should consider moving it again to a 1 gal. pot with 50/50 perlite/potting soil.  After it adjusts and continues to grow you can start weening it from your humidity-controlled environment.  I recently did this with some by taking them out of the plastic box and letting them spend a couple hours at a time in a sunny room inside.  When I could tell they could handle that I put them outside in the shade (I'm in Mississippi, and it's pretty warm now).  They have been doing well in the shade for 3 days now.  This weekend I will move them to a location where they will get just a little filtered morning sun.  You get the picture.  I will gradually acclimate to more and more sun.  However, don't be in a hurry to get them into the sun.  I consider the battle mostly won when I can just get them to be stable in the shade.

I'm sure others will have different suggestions.  Good luck.

Henry has it right. If you are hasty, you may ruin your hard work.

Thanks Henry and Jon for the information.  That helps a lot.  Henry, I'm in North Carolina so our weather here is probably not that far behind you in Mississippi.  78 degrees here today:) and I've got spring fever BAAAAADDDD!
