Graft took and bud open, what to do?

Hi,
I have no idea what to do as it is covered by transparent tape. I fear it will die from the heat. I grafted Negronne on my Atreano tree and now I fear removing the tape will kill the green bud and expose the leaf to dry weather. what can I do now? Part of the leaf is out now and it is getting tight inside the tape... I do not know what to do because this is the last thing remaining of my negronne cutting that was killed by GNATS!!! HELP APPRECIATED A LOT!!

Speedmaster, not familiar with centigrade conversion to Farenheight, but if it's warm where you are, it should be OK  Maybe put some shade over it?  Mist it a little?  If the graft has taken, and the leaf is being fed from the mother plant, all should be fine.

This practice of wrapping with grafting tape seems a little hinky to me. I would think that keeping the plants in a humidity tent would provide the same function, but not interfere with bud growth. I've heard people say the bud will break through, but the grafting tape in my drawer all seems pretty thick. Is the idea that using tape eliminates the danger of transitioning from humidity tent to plain air?

One of my figs unwraped the tape where the bud is with the help of dust storm and the bud died in one day. I did not even get the chance to cover it again. That is why I ask what to do. I am using regular clear tape which seems to get weaker from the heat and dust.
temps now are about 35C which might be about 95F according to google.
should I cover it with a bottle?

I think not from my experience with tho other dead graft.

A bottle will just make it hotter!  If you do cover with a bottle, SHADE the bottle!  Those temps are hot!!  IF the graft took, it should be fine.  It should be getting moisture from the mother plant.  Do you have shade cloth?  Figure out how to shade that baby!  AND use a mister to keep it moist.

do you have pictures to show? it would help for better feedback

My grandpa was an expert at grafting fruit trees.  He used to wrap only the part where the graft was stuck into the branch, and with a black, loosely woven cloth tape.  It was coated with something kind of sticky, but it wasn't solid.  Air or moisture could have easily gotten through it.  It just held the two pieces together until the graft "took".

Speed. What would happen if you covered it with moss of something and treated it like a air layer. Even if it made roots. The graft will mend itself in my opinion

The parafilm type of grafting "tape" does indeed allow buds to break through.  I was also skeptical about this but it is working great for me (and others) with cuttings that have only one or two layers of parafilm over the bud.  It sounds like you are using another type of tape.  I don't know if buds can break through other types.  A photo would definitely help.

Okay I will take a photo right now And thanks desertdance for the tip on bottles!

Here are the pictures. Not very clear because of the reflections but a leaf is already pressing and it is open from above but still tight.
There is a picture of a paper white pouch I made, can I use it to shade?

If that's not a tape called grafting tape I'd remove it from the bud and put 1 wet coffee filter over the bud, then 1 dry one over that.  As long as what you're using is light weight it should work fine.  I would put it in the shade.

I would put shade cloth over the entire tree until that little leaf is looking good.

If you stand in the sun you will feel the heat.  If you walk under shade, it is about 10 degrees F cooler.  Just shading the leaf may help, but I'd get the entire branch into shade.  Put an umbrella over it?  That little cone you made is awfully small.

Good luck.  Keep us posted.

it looks like packing tape. grafting tape is like having your cutting dipped in wax, its easy to break free. please do remove that VERY, VERY, VERY, carefully.
Suzi did give you some great advise.
good luck with it

The grafting tape is "parafilm".  I got mine somwhere online in ~3/4" wide rrolls.  It thins considerably when wrapped tightly around thegraft.  I usually wrap the whole scion in two layers and the graft itself in 8-10.  I use aluminum foil wrapped very loosly as a shade maker.

Thanks guys for the help.

I hoped that was your black madeira bud graft, any luck?

The graft still looks okay on black madeira and there is some green under the tape. I hope it is budding or something. I can't say for sure until I open the tape to peek inside. Perhaps next week. I did not graft a black madeira bud because all died worms were coming out of them. I grafted bark hoping it might form buds as some of my other figs did. Still hoping...

Update. Looks good for now.

Congratulations! What method did you use? Looks like it's a success.

Thanks, I used Cleft method.
